Well the 4runner is running really bad now, i changed the oil last night and it was milky grey, muddy water must of gotten in it. When it idles it runs ruff, then when you give it gas it dies. Any idea whats wrong? i pulled the plugs and cleaned them, bu it still is doing it, so i am going to replace the plugs. I got a new air filter. Could it be the injectors? Need HELP FAST.

Did the motor stall on you in the mud hole? Did you restart your motor in the water? Could have bent a connecting rod...worst case scenario.

Hey, this is the first time I've looked at your build, and was wondering if you figured out the e-locker wiring yet.  Do you have a wiring harness or anything?  I just put a high-pinion e-locker in my front housing and have yet to wire it up.  Anyway, as far as the motor hitting the springs, mine do that, too.

I ground a few things down and replaced the bolts with countersunk socket hed flat screws.

I hope that helps.

Rainer

Yeah i havnt wired mine up yet. I plan to do that in the near future. I am getting a harness for the front and rear from Inch worm and doing the rest myself. Im getting some switches from 12voltguy.com as well.

HEy gittinit the motor died from all the water getting in the intake. SO then i tried to start it up again and it just clunked. It runs now, but very rough, but when i give it gas it dies. Anything you can think of?

Sounds like water on top of the pistons = bad. You could try pulling the plugs and turning it over to get out any particles that may be left in there. You should change your plugs, and check the distributor for any water under the cap. I suggest a compression check, and if one, or two cylinders are out of a reasonable range then its time for some major work.

I just checked the cylinders for water, i pulled the plugs nd cranked it, no water came out. THen i checked the plugs and all the spark plugs are working. So I think i may be fouled injectors or something in my fuel. BUt i will check those first, then if those dont fix it then i will do a compression test. How hard is the water on top of the pistons? I already checked the distributor, all dry. Thanks

Man, it feels like you're a year behind me! Ahaha!

I have an '85 4runner with a 3" Rough Country lift. It had 33s, but they got stolen after I went off to college. Jerks :maddest:

Anyway, I've been in the water pretty good, and you first need to take all your spark plugs out and see what shoots out. Then, make sure your distributor is dry (proly is by now). Replace your air filter, and FINALLY, check on your air-flow sensor. Unfortunately, yours is probably shot now, as they are very sensitive to water. I've had to replace two now, and you would think I'd learn  :smack:

I got my last one from a junk yard for 30 bucks, but it depends on where you are. Really easy swap. Just plug-n-go. Hope that helps ya!

              Jordan

854RUN

SWEET, Try and buy it out right , ya like Jordan7118 said just swap it.

I dont think it my mass air flow sensor! Here is a video of the thing running, it really wont idle now. When i start it it idles at like 500 rpms. When i give it a little gas it starts to rev, then when i open it up it makes a hard sucking noise then dies. I put in another new spark plug and will replace the rest tomarow. I am also going to get some injector cleaner as well. So we will see.

I couldn't figure my problem out either. It was fine until I tried to start it the next day. I had a shop install the sensor the first go around, and I installed it the second time. I say this because I knew what was happening and what the sensor fixed.

I do know if you said it or not, but did you find water in the intake? If the air filter's wet, you're probably better off just spending some money for the sensor and swapping it out. That's just my  :twocents: though. Hope it works for ya!

will it run with the MAFS hooked up? i know mine will not run at all with the out the MAFS, also there is a big vacuum line right under the throttle body it might be loose or fallen off. if you sucked water in to the MAFS there is a good chance you need a new one. I would get a new one and try it worst case thats not it and you have a spare or borrow one from some one (you got my number).

Thanks Josh! I will look into it. I went and got some injector cleaner and now it runs a little better, but still dies after i give it gas. It will redline now though. So i will look at the MAFS, and will look into the vacuum line. I was told it may be my regulator or fuel filter, could it?

that's part of the LSPV (load sensing portioning valve). the brake lines go into the valve and from the valve to the axle. when you have a load in the back the lever (connected to the rear end) goes up, allowing more fluid to the drums. when you're light, it does the opposite.

... right?

Vic stuff

pretty sure thats how it works, tied mine up to the frame rail, lol.  hey mark just do the ifs rear you wont regret it  btw heres one for sale local  http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/335891998.html

thats what it is. except its upside down, the plate its connected to should be straight up and down.
