Hey guys just bought a 1985 toyota 4runner. It has a rebuilt 22re with a offroad cam, new exhaust with header, engnblder(sp) internals, electric fan, leaky power steering. Rebuilt nuckles, all new seals, high pinion 3rd up front with 5.29s and a elocker, the rear is rebuilt, 5.29s and an elocker. The interior has sr5 guages installed, in the process of installing the passenger side sr5 bucket, driver was already installed. Sr5 rear bench. Hurculiner tub. 3 inch suspension lift, 2 inch body lift, on 33 inch tires. It also has a cobra CB radio, alpine deck and pioneer speakers all around. Truck has rust on the passenger side rear fender and on the topper. :rivers:

On the drive home, after buying the truck, it died. We had to get it towed the rest of the way home. When we got it home, we figured out that the wiring from the battery to the alternator got melted because it was right next to the header. So the entire truck including the engine was running off the battery, it drained the battery so we couldnt jump it either. We removed the alternator to see if that was only the problem. We then had to remove the melted wire, we broke the boolt that pinches the wire in, we then brought it to Advanced Auto Parts to get it replaced, we had a recipt that had a ltd lifetime replace. So we got a free alternator. Got home installed the alternator and moved the wiring away from the header. Now it runs great. Wish i had some pics of the process.

Well this will be a long project because i am only in high school  I am trying to get a job as well. I am a student at the technical school in the auto tech program so i am still learning alot of stuff. I am in the process of getting ASE certified.

Here are some pics of the truck. And some questions I have.
Truck:

Front Axle:

22re:

Interior:

Front elocker motor(is it suppost to be touching the leafs?)

Rear axle, elocker motor:

Elockers are not wired up yet. Hope that to be the first thing i do. I will post up more info when i figure it out. ENJOY!!

Yeah, it has a 2inch body lift, and a 3 inch suspension, so it has 5 inches. Its bigger in person.

The 3rds are from Inchworm, maybe that helps. ITs not really the motor, its more of the mounting bolts on the top right, but it still kinda concerns me. Oh yeah, my power steering is leaking bad now too, so I will be looking at if the steering box is cracked or if it has any leaks in the hoses. Any insite.

should be pretty easy to see where it is leaking from, if it is the pump or the box.  I'd bet its the hoses though.  They rot over time, i had to replace mine when I did my motor swap last year.

super clean runner. i have had lots of cars and trucks but so far i like my runner the most. its not the fastest and not the best looking but it has the most potential in my eyes. if i could do it all over i would have bought a 4runner 1st and been done with it. good luck and keep us posted with your progress
got another 85 runner. build coming soon!!

I was jus tlooking at it, and all i can see is power steering fluid, its all over the box. Dripping from the bottom of it. its running down the leaf springs, i will take some pics of it for you guys.

Yeah, if i have to replace my steering box i will go with cross over. As for right now, i fixed the leak in my rear diff. I fixed the leak in my radiator, and am still trying to figure out the leak in my steering box. I flexed the truck out some today on a snow pile, i didnt even need four wheel drive either, but the pile was only like 2 feet tall. HAHA.

No that snot how i check for leaks. I did that when i moved the truck out of the garage and into the drive way. I searched under the hood, and around the steering box, I think the leak is coming from the seal were the steering column goes into the steering box, but im not sure.

Yeah I read about that. I am going to cut the holy part out of the rear fender. I just dont know what to do for the sliding window frame that has the giant rust holes in it. I want to replace them, becasue it is beyond repair.

Does this look ready for primer? I read an article and did it step by step, so now would be the primer stage. Does it look ready, give me some suggestions.

Im not going to fill teh holes yet i just want the big patch covered up, i think im going to cut the fender above those holes. As for technique, i used sand automotive sandpaer, from 60,120,320 all this with my bare hands. I am using duplicolor sandable primer for primer. Im just primering it for now till i can decide on a color for the whole truck.
