We voted in the no self serve into law.  This is what it came down to, the gas was gonna cost us the same per gallon, if we had to pump it ourself, or have a station attendant do it for us.  Some states went to self serve, because they got a small break in the price per gallon.

It's just like going to the store and using the u-scan.  I'm not getting a break by using the u-scan, when they got checkers that will do it for me, at the same price.

They won't let us do diesel either, but for recreational vehicles, ie; boats, quads, and motorcycles, they will let you pump your own, just because they don't want to be held responsible for spilling gas on your expensive toys!  But they will still stand there while you do it.

If it's nasty and raining sideways out, it sure is nice to have them do it for you.  :yesnod:  Working at a gas station is good a good starter job for those starting out in the workforce.  That was one of my first jobs!

What if I have a truck with a fuel cell? Will they still try to fill that? Or will they let me do that myself?

te51levin

They have to fill it for you.  It's lame at best.  Some people insist that it "creates jobs", but I don't see it that way.  Honestly, if I am paying someone to do something that I would rather do myself, then it's no different than welfare.  There are plenty of people who have never pumped their own gas and they'll still be around to keep the droolers and the high school kids employed.  I guess we need to keep paying them to spill fuel all over the side of our cars and filling them up with the wrong grade of fuel - or the wrong type entirely.  For example, last week a little '84 Hilux Diesel came into the shop.  It mysteriously quit running and developed a few interesting fuel leaks.  Apparently one of our state's "trained professionals" had filled the poor thing with gasoline.

This state is something else.  Pump your own gas?  Heavens no, that's dangerous business!  Let a professional (typically, an apathetic high school student or borderline schitzophrenic railyard hobo) do that so you don't set yourself on fire.  But we have no trouble getting a CWP and all manner of interesting weapons.  Liquor in the grocery store?  Absolutely not!  This foul beverage mut be sold only in state-run bottle shops so as to limit access and control one's misbehavior.  Yet somehow, we have more strip clubs in town than we do stray cats...

I'm still not sure what to make of this place.  There are parts of it I like, and parts of it that just make me want to :hammerhead: without the smile.

On topic: We are back down to just under $4/gallon at some stations for 87-octane "gasoline" - just about good enough to run a five horse Briggs & Stratton without shooting the head gasket over the fence into the neighbor's yard.

The white van's here for me again.  Gotta go!

I certainly hope the station is going to pay the repair costs on that diesel, especially knowing it can be ridiculously expensive to repair an injector pump.

Are they just topless bars or full on nudes?  How come I haven't come to visit yet  ???

I believe the station's insurance is covering it.  The truck ended up needing an o-ring, glow plugs, filter, and I don't know what else - not bad, really.  We also had a ton of vehicles come in with diesel in the gas tank, but that was due to the tanker driver filling the wrong storage tank at a gas station.  The company who handles fuel delivery took care of those repairs since they were not really the fault of the station.  Truck driver lost his job, naturally.

The entertainment venues are full bore nekkid.  But if you're willing to drive five hours to see rent-a-wrecks parading their cut-rate goods around a stage, you're in worse condition than I thought.

Maybe I'm just used to chico then  :dunno:  Last time we went there were only 2 girls I wanted to boo off the stage, and even in their earlier, seadier days there were only a few skantastic broads.

It has reached $2.83 here.

I've been watching this for a while now and it seems to have everything working in our favor.

In the middle of July President Bush called for Congress to lift the federal ban on drilling in certain areas...gas prices started inching lower.

Congress, brave souls that they are...never lifted the ban, instead they let the ban expire...prices went lower still.

The distressed economy brought two more items...a stronger dollar and decreased demand...oddly enough prices are still falling.

Now!

Decreased demand has the same overall effect on the ratio of supply and demand that increasing the supply will have.

A stronger dollar means that, since OPEC switched it's base currency from the USD to the Euro, we are now buying oil with 90 cent dollars instead of 70 cent dollars (in relation to the base currency).

This boils down to the simple fact...that I was right on all accounts!
Get the Feds out of the way and just the mere threat of America becoming a player in the oil production markets and prices will react to the possibility of increased supply.
A strong dollar, which requires restraint in federal spending (and lowered taxes) to sustain, will bring more bang for our buck.
Drill here, drill now and put some restrictions/penalties for frivolous law suits brought by the eco-nazis.

I've been noticing a steady drop here too, with quality gas about $3.50 a gallon.  I go by a shell station on the way home from work every day, and sometimes when I pull up and look left I'll half way catch the price out of the corner of my right eye and get an initial shock that there's a 3 at the beginning of the price, then I realize that gas is super expensive now.  It's almost like I was so accusomed to paying much less that my brain still can't quite wrap itself around the idea of $3-4 a gallon gas  :shake:
