:shake: I was replacing the metal things that go over the felt on the knuckles and I broke a bolt off

While I was under there I thought of UncJ and his demand for pics... so I got out my camera and my memory cards are full so I can't take any more pics :tantrum: till I find a card reader and empty em

So when I find some way to empty my cards, I'll get some pics up :shake:

those are more to keep the dirt out than the grease in,  that  1/2 inch wide band  under the  half moons  does  better
i wouldnt worry about it

sometime later when you have the knuckle off the truck and can get to it then fix it then

Well I tried drivin the Migo to town today.  There is a loud THUMP THUMP comin from the rear end when I accelerate, shift, and brake.  I'm thinkin maybe a busted shaft or gears :dunno:

I was lookin from the outside and saw that I lost some Ubolt washers, so I decided to replace those with some sturdier washers.  I stripped 2 ubolts out :shake: So the Migo sits till I can get some REAL ubolts

I had 7/8ths of an inch diameter made for myself, but of course that is excessive. Well, your axle selection is a bit different, but some good 9/16th or 5/8ths should hold on to you....

Yeah but the transmission output shaft and the rear axle shafts are a bit different  It'll still roll with a busted axle shaft

she has a 79-85 rear axle. the shafts being shorter I think makes them stronger, I have seen many 86 and newer broken shafts and twisted splines. I am actually worried about it with mine, i have a ifs rear axle now. I am going to upgrade the rear shafts before it happens to mine. My friend smoggie has taken out 3, 2 in one housing and 1 in another. my other friend dennis has taken out 2, each in different axle housings. latest one was memorial day at the gatekeeper, anybody there friday night-saturday morning would have seen it. Scottz has twisted 2, with only 4 trips maybe on them. I have pulled mine many times, but never bothered looking at the splines. guess I am too scared to look. this is within the last 3 yrs of running these axles under our trucks.

justina if you have a problem with the rear third let me know, i don't have anymore 4.30 diffs, but I am sure I can find one. all I have laying around are 4.10s.
