Wow, been looking at my 4Runner rust away too long, need some inspiration and here I will find it...!

85 Toyota 4Runner, solid axle, 22Re, original paint and graphics and not a straight panel to be found!

Helicopter! You can see part of the skid in the right corner of the pic. That's how a lot of the tower guys get up there these days, next to climbing of course!

It could even be the guys in the basket that hangs from the helicopter.

Well, I wasn't really. I only guessed 'without a basket' since I have seen them do their skid training where they will stand on the skids of the helicopter until they get close enough to walk off the skid and onto the tower frame. Pretty cool and fun to watch! I know this since I was working at one of the substations last year where they were doing that training. Part of the reason they do it this way is that it is cheaper, faster and less fatiguing on the linemen from not having to do all the climbing.  :yesnod:

Tallchevy

It's also quicker to get out in the marsh area & on the bay with the basket full of equipment  & workers.

  and that is a very cool pic. There was a video going around a while back that showed the guy going from the helicoptor to the lines.

yup, one of the cool things is seeing them ground out with that big rod, get real close to the lines and a rod of energy shoots out and grabs the rod and clamps to the strand.
