83 ex longbed on fullwidths

i bought this truck about 3-4 months ago.  my budget is pretty slim so buildup will probably take a while.  i want it to be trail worthy by next summer.
this is what i looked like when i bought it

parked next to my daily driver

she has the rest of the house and i have the garage
bought a welder so i did a little shortning
previous owner was a huge fan of bondo

don't really like camo that much.  started primering and realized i needed alot more primer so i shot the whole truck light.  probably put a couple more coats on it.  got my paint it is going to be metallic copper.  was cheap too.
also scored at pic n pull half off day 37 for the pair.  they came out of a mazda

the plans are to put fuel injection in it, steering, gears & lockers duals if i can come up with the money put a canopy over the bed, i already have five inch springs but for now i am keeping it lower so it will fit in the garage.  once i get the motor changed then i will lift it put some 36 or 37 on it.  then just put some armor on it and it will be good

i put my first coat of metallic copper on today, but it was too cold and well ya now i have to sand all the runs out of it and try again

thanks the dovetail was something i could do to it without spending a lot of money.  i bobbed the bed 17 in and narrowed it 16 in in the rear.

paint is not coming i have been working on my homework.  i have to have 9 lessons an 10 labs done by monday.
once i get the paint finished then i can put everything back on.  then i am going to get the bender from the shop and bend some tube.

they schooling is for work i have to go through 900 hours of schooling.  its for electrical.  i go to school for a week straight 8 hours a day every 6th week.

thats not that fun but at least you get it all done during the week and have some time off until next time you have to go, are you an electrician?

ya i am an electrician for the union local 684 out of modesto

cut up my double tube and welded it back together at an angle.  still needs to be welded completely i just spot welded it to see what it would look like.  also have to finish grinding the old braces off

that truck look sweet was the bed hard to do? Ive been considering doing that to my 82 still not she if i got the skills or not!

no it wasn't hard it just take a while.  with the sheetmetal you have to stitch it back together so it takes forever.  i bought one of those cheap laser line projectors and screwed it into the ceiling to get my angle cut on the dovetail.

started building my canopy.  i am going to cover the top and then makes some sides that i can zip off during the summer and put back on when it is raining.  i got a cheap tonneau cover for the top  the tarp style ones and then i will have to find something for the sides.
