any idea on oil pressure? remember the timing chain tensioner is hydraulically operated.
how many miles are supposed to be on this thing?

About 18,000 miles give or take a few. I dont know how accurate the oil pressure gauge is on the dash but it shows the same as it always has. I wrote out everything in this thread if it helps http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=37613.0

Where is the tick coming from, head or block?

Sounds like the back of the head, thats why i thought it was a leak on the header but its not. The noise started after i layed it on its side twice at moonrocks.

sick sick truck.

how many miles do you got on your IROKs? Do you drive it on the street a lot? and are they bias? thanks

I dont have more than 500 on them now and i only drive it on the street to the trail. Radials

I have all day tomarrow to tweak on it. Ill put a video up of what it sounds like. I really dont know where to start looking.

run some atf through the engine, its possible you knocked some carbon up from somewhere and its clogging somewhere, the atf should help braek it down

What about sea foam or would atf be better? I was told carbon build up could make that noise if it got between the piston and valve. Sound possible?

Its a great welder but after a year i burned up the gun and had to buy a new one. It was my fault because i kept grounding the tip on accident when i was learning. The jd2 is a great bender and its pretty easy to bend by hand

he means run ATF in the oil. It will clean deposits from the block, but should be used with care. :twocents:

I was talking about the rear EGR Plate on the head...it can leak.

I believe it only has about 17,000 on the motor.  it sounds more like it is coming from the low end.  He doesn't drive it on the street very much at all.  so the tires don't ware much.

Ya iv heard about running half a quart of atf in your oil for a couple miles to clean it up. I might try that tomorrow but that sucks because i just changed the oil with mobile1 synthetic. o well.  If there is a egr plate that could be it. Iv never seen what it looks like but ill look into that. I did remove the EGR valve and checked it, didn't appear to be leaking.

you can actually run a little bit of atf in the engine and it wont hurt anything at all. atf is oilbased, just has a lot of detergent in it.... no engine has ever failed because someone has put a little atf in it

What about spraying some atf in the spark plug holes let it sit for a couple minutes then fire it up? That should burn some buildup off the piston.

Heres some videos i took this morning. Theres one more video from the engine bay but its large and taking a while to upload. I checked the egr plate on the back of the head and its not leaking at all.  It sounds like i need to pull this motor :headscratch:

I say drop that thing in the river and get a 3rz, it sounds like :pokinit:.  Do a compression check if you care and maybe it has a burnt valve or something

Ya i know i dont want to put that money into a 3rz right now. Like i was doing before i just want to make this motor run nice with a smooth idle like it has now but now something else is wrong. Its gotta be a valve making that noise.

It sounds like it is comming from the oil pan, but it dous not sound heavy like a rod.

I would feel the oil pan to see if maybe something is hitting it. Could be a rod nut comming loose and hitting the windage tray or the tray could have come loose.

Does the noise change if you push in the clutch?

What about rockers? Are they Toyota, or are they Napa. I have seen a Napa rocker loose the hardend pad causing a loud valvetrain noise.

There toyota parts. Well i did dent in the front of my oil pan about 1-2 inches deep from the ram hitting it when i jumped my truck. Possibly the crank could be hitting it but it really sounds like it comes from the head if i stick my head in there. The clutch dosent affect it but sometimes the noise goes away for a minute or 2 and comes back.

Edit: checked to see if anything was hitting the oil pan there was nothing and the sound comes from up high.

have you checked the flywheel? sounds like the noise increases as the rpms go up..
you can also check for the sound with a stethoscope and just listen to the sound that way...

With a stethoscope you can hear it clear at the back of the engine and at the front its not very loud. Is there anyway to check the flywheel with out removing the tranny? The clutch feels fine, wouldnt it have some slop if it was loose.?

None, i had to order more :)

Well started taking everything apart last night and today and its such a pita to get the lower intake plenum off i might as well just pull the whole motor and pull the head and go from there. While the head is off im going to put a engnbldr torqer cam in and o/s valves. I hope its just a burnt exhaust valve and nothing worse. Well see. I really want to remove all the smog crap while im at it and get a tow rig soon so i dont have to ever smog it again.

the intake is easy to take off you just need the right tools and when to use them.  Dont forget the one bolt with the allen head!!

That might be why it wasent coming off! I never saw a allen bolt on there. I managed to get all the nuts and bolts off but it wouldn't budge. Ill check it out tomarrow.

I removed my injectors also and i will be sending them off to witch hunter to have them cleaned and flow tested.
