I stripped my other set of doors and got them ready for half doors. So what do you guys think of this style? I think they look good, start cutting tomorrow..

Well after my last trip to the rubicon i didnt like how much ass end i had sticking out and i was hitting the rear bumper a lot on steep decents. I lost a tail light lense a while back from the fact that the bed was just too long and got in the way along with body damage to one side. I want to make a tube/flatbed cage but dont have the time or resources now so i decided to cut into this bed for the better. I still wanted to keep as much space as i could and with the chevys i decided 10"inches was perfect. Cut the sides with a cut off wheel and did the inner bed with a sawzall. Using masking tape for the sides works perfect to get a straight cut. I tryed the string and paint across the inside of the bed and it didnt work so i pulled the string across and laid masking tape next to it, for a straight line. That worked the best

The sides lined up great but the inner had some gaps. Took 2 hours to get it all welded, thin sheetmetal isent fun to weld. I had the miller 175 voltage set at about 1 and had to bride about half of the inside bed area.

Came out nice and strong. These are after welding

I reused the body mounts that i cut out of the 10" section. Modified them a little and welded them back up to the bed all the way at the back. I probley really didnt need to use them but i want it to be as strong as possible.

Heres the inner bed all welded across and the body mount buger welded up. Im not very good welding in hard to reach areas. Primered all the areas welded, smoothed out the outside but its going to need some bondo to make it look good. Trimmed the bed mat to fit.

Now i need to trim the bumper to fit and figure a way to mount it. Clean up the rear bottom of the bed and make it a straight cut.

Other side

The Half doors are cut and i started on them but they are a pita so im going to hold off on those for now and work on other things. I bought a gallon of a Flat light tan paint that is used for industrial uses so its going to be tuff. Once i get the body work done im going to try and pray it before mcr5

Did you cut the inner frame to length along with the plastic shell and window frames?

Ya i know made a big difference and i like how short it is now without all the ass hangin out. I finished it up today and made it look real good with bondo. I must have been sanding for 4 hours today but it came out good. I have finished pictures with the tailgate on and all primered. I will post them tomarrow.

yep thats the exact same one I have.  I pulled out the windows, cut out the section, then cut out the same length pieces from the inner and outer window frames and slapped it back in.  Its not perfect but it works pretty damn good for never even trying to seal it at all

Looks really good all short with a shell.
Did you have to cut the windows or do they still fit in the frames? What did you use to fill the gap on the plastic shell, fiberglass, bondo?

He did a ghetto limit strap to keep from pulling out and he said hes going to make that long slip shaft and come when i go to mcr5 next month. Matt took his peice also......he was driving one wheel drive.....I just went out on the trail with me and my buddy sense they all broke down. I never broke anything and my rig did awsome, well see how it does at mcr5 when i run the whole trail for the first time

yeah the windows still fit and have something like 10" of travel, I used fiberglass to reconnect the two sides and fill the gaps and then bondo to top it off but it will be impossible to make it look perfect unless you bondo the whole thing because the bondo fills in the texture and is quite noticible and why I painted it camo to hide it

Yea i know what you mean. If i cut it straight enouph i could just fiberglass the inside and seal the outside with a small amount of putty or bondo so there is just a thin line across it. After that im going to paint it to match the truck

It would look sick if you bondod the entire thing and then blocksanded it before you painted it so it was perfectly smooth but that would be a ton of work and it would be really heavy

That would look sick but its still flexy plastic so the bondo might chip over time from the flex. I spent way to much money on it because they were so hard to find for a std cab short bed. So im going to chop it and keep it. How much did you get yours for?
