Nah I haven't even taken this off road with the biggger tires yet. I got metal in it when installing the studs.

Still one can argue 35"s are too big.   I seemed to have to replace at least one a season due to it being super sloppy.

Yeah I got 2 seasons out of my last set,Hope to do the same with the current bearings.  I don't really enjoy taking the axle apart.

For trunions all you have to do is pull off felts, locking hub flange, and c-clip. Then whole knuckle comes off.

I ran ifs for years actually had good luck with it holding up. So I can knock it to much. I do like the straight axle better though.

True, but I usually go threw the wheel bearings and all that when I know it's time for the trunions.

Maybe the trunnion bearing eliminator would be an upgrade to consider getting. Its nice not worrying about those bearings anymore lol

Not compatible with Marlin Steering arms. I also don't give Trail-Gear my money unless I absolutely have to.

Yeah i hear you about trail gear i try to avoid them but their the only ones who make the Trunnion Bearing Eliminators lol. My friend jarrod has marlin steering arms and we modified them to accept the Trunnion Bearing Eliminators. The hole in the Marlin arm is quite a bit bigger. So Jarrod filled the holes up with some 3/32" 7018 stick rods to make the I.D. smaller then had a close family friend whose a machinist re bore the holes to the correct size so its a press to fit like its suppose to be. I originally wanted to do a sleeve to compensate for the size difference but Brad the machinist said that would create a weak point, when weld metal is laid down the correct way with no discontinuities its stronger than the base metal. This was the final results. Came out good but jarrod probably spent 4-5 hours welding and Brad maybe 3 hours on the mill. Very time consuming lol

That's a lot of work.  very nicely done though. I'm pretty sure the 25mm is the route for me. Don't ever plan on going bigger than 37s.

Thanks man, the 37s look nice and clean on your rig. I like the bottom cap for the 25mm upgrade how they give you allen bolts for a flush fitment. Thats cool that the steering was just a bad bearing and not anything to do with the hydro or new p/s. When i rebuilt the front axle in my 84 recently when i took out the passenger top trunnion bearing, it completely fell apart into a million pieces lol. Wonder how long that was that was before i found it

Glad you were able to figure it out!  Mine makes all sorts of racket.  Lots of pop noises when I turn.

My crossover exhaust has been cooking my transmission oil. Decided to do something about it. Plan to replace the fluid in the trans and cases as I'm pretty sure the exhaust has killed its viscosity.

Glad you were able to figure it out!  Mine makes all sorts of racket.  Lots of pop noises when I turn. 

When i used to turn my 4runner while stopped i could hear some popping noises.  Further investigation showed it was the leaf springs trying to fan out and making the noise.

be careful with header wrap, it get warm and hold water pretty good, it speeds up the rusting process, I ruined a 400 dollar pair of headers in a year

Thats why I'm not wrapping the headers. Just this down pipe that cost me $80. Not worried about it getting rusty.

with such a small section, you may consider ceramic coating it, scavenges heat really well, and stay pretty cool on outside

My header is ceramic coated and still gets crazy hot. Don't think that would achieve what I'm going for. Trying to not boil the transmission oil.

Being as this is becoming a fairly common swap, it could be a good idea to make some of these and sell them.  Not sure if there are any available bosses nearby on the tranny you could bolt it to, though.
