I think you will be better off without the shock boots. They hold dirty water and mud and make it impossible to clean up. Lots of mud in these parts.

Yeah I plan on cutting them off tomorrow. Just didn't get to it yet.

Im thinking about putting that front hanger on too.  I think Ruffstuff has one and so does all pro.  Your running 35s correct?  Any body roll with your rear shock arrangment?

I'm very happy with the body roll now or lack there of I should say. I would highly recommend it.

Its been a busy week with little red getting spoiled some more. Once again huge thanks to Cody and Craig from Badland for their tireless work this week. You guys are amazing!

22. Custom rear tire carrier with Hi-Lift mount & jerry can mount (Badland Metal Manufacturing Custom)

25. Diff armor front and rear (Badland Metal Manufacturing Custom)

I really like the idea of a rear tire carrier, but have never needed the room and prefer the weight of the tire to be flat on the floor behind the rear seat.  I might even try to strap it down farther forward with the rear seat folded down.  It looks great. How is it mounted to the existing bumper/truck?

It's mounted to a spindle that is welded onto the bumper.

So my shifting problem has gotten much worse. I am also now having a slight grind into 4th that was never there before. It seems to be correlated to the added weight in the rear? I'm sure glad I picked up that transmission seeing as I'm going to need it sooner than I thought. I ordered a HD clutch and flywheel from Marlin last night. Going to try and put it all in this weekend. I'm trying to understand how the weight is connected to the shifting problem? Can anyone weigh in on this?

More weight= more of a load on the clutch.

Yeah I just saw Mike's reply on the chat box. Thanks man.

Really weird that 4th would give you trouble, since it is the only one without any gears. It is simply bypassing the transmission and coupling the input shaft to the output shaft 1:1.  :dunno:

It started with noise in 5th (which is still there). Now it is taking a little more pressure to get 4th into gear and makes a sound as it does so. Just going to nip it in the bud and put the new (to me) tranny in and be done with it. Its a bummer that I can't do the duals at the same time. The timing sucked in that aspect. I realized that I can drop the transfer case without dropping the tranny when I am ready for the duals though. So that made me feel better

23. 4th & 5th gear are going out on transmission (remove and replace)

24. Violent shuddering when leaving first gear especially on inclines (remove and replace clutch, flywheel, clutch cover, pilot bearing, and throwout bearing - Marlin HD 1,200 lb kit)

Tackled the transmission/clutch job this weekend. Took me about 16 hours all told with a 14 hour day on Saturday and another 2 hours on Sunday. It appears my issue was in the flywheel as the pictures above show. I'd love to hear from you guys about what the likely cause was for the flywheel to look like that.

I put all the new parts in including the low mileage used transmission/transfer case I picked up a few weeks back. Everything is working however I did find some aluminum paste/metal when draining the low mileage transmission. My father in law says it is normal especially considering the mileage on it. He thinks that the guy probably never drained it and it is the original fluid and the paste and metal is likely from the synchros. I put some cheap gear oil in it for this week to kind of act as a flush. I plan on draining it this upcoming weekend and putting Red Line MT-90 in at that point. I'm not sure if its the new clutch/flywheel or the cheap fluid I've got in it right now but shifting does feel a little strange in comparison to before. It almost feels like I'm shifting through quicksand (the best analogy I can come up with). There is no problem getting into gear in any of the gears it just doesn't feel as tactile as before. I'm guessing it is due to the cheap gear oil. I guess I will find out when I drain it and put the Red Line in.  :dunno:

The main issue that prompted all this work has been resolved which has me  :willynilly:  The problem of violent shuddering when leaving 1st gear is gone!

Nice job, can you post a picture of the old clutch disc?
A score like that could only come from the disc i woulda thought, I WANNA SEE IT!

It got :pokinit: canned already bud. It actually didn't look that bad though...

LittleSteve

That scoring on the fly looks like something has gone round in it but what i guess well never know. Its fixed now thats the main thing.
Are you going to mcr with it? The runner, not the old clutch.

No i'm unfortunately not going to make MCR. I have a week long trip to Moab with my club planned in September already and I can't take any more time off that month.

So I'm getting everything sorted out for getting duals done. Just got off the phone with Jesse at High Angle about drive shafts. Looks like about 5-600 for front and rear with me sending 2 good cores for them to use. I've got a local dealer who claims he has an order of Marlin adapters on the way so I'm waiting to see if that pans out. I really don't want to go with TG or AA for my adapter, but Marlin continues to only have 10* clocked adapters or 23 spline variants. Talking to Jesse made me realize I will need to cut my spring perches and rotate so that the diff is 2* downward of my transfer output. It will also mean my truck being out of commission for at minimum a few days while I wait for them to get me the shafts after I get them the measurements. I know most everyone on here has already been through this, and I'm in the minority in that I only have my one vehicle. I'm going to vent my stress all the same!

In other news taking the club to Reiter this Saturday. First time wheeling the little hooker in what feels like 6 months. I know its actually more like 4 but it still feels like an eternity. It will be the first run with my new tires, suspension, high steer, clutch, transmission, and whatever else I'm forgetting. Its been a long winter of pouring money, sweat, and one pissed off girlfriend into the truck. It will be nice to finally get to reap the rewards.  :driving:

Thanks man. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...or is it good news?

Prismo

Are you planning to do a double cardan in the rear? You should stop by here for a few on the way back from Reiter, I am only 3 miles from Hwy 2 at Sultan.

Yes I am doing a CV in the rear. I'd be happy to stop by, why don't you come on the run though?

I have someone showing up for a printing job at 11:30 am & they will be here for a while.

Well finally got to put the truck through her paces yesterday. It wheels amazing in comparison to how it did before all the work that was done this winter. The lack of duals and a front locker are still very apparent as I did some burning of that brand new clutch. I really need to get those done, and then there won't be much that my truck won't be able to conquer.

SqWADoosh

Just picked up a brand new RADesigns Triple Stick never used from a guy for $175. The Duals shopping list has its first check mark!
