if your shackle is laying back to far it will over stress your springs and cause premature failure.  The hole point of the shackle is to allow the spring to stretch out.  If you aren't allowing it to stretch out properly if will cause the spring to find other ways to stretch (ie. S'ing of the spring). Thats why on long travel springs you sometimes need to put longer shackles on, because the spring has more arch and therefor requires a greater distance to flex out.

Hope that makes sense I'll explain it better if it didn't.

alwayzbroken

That makes sense. I don't know what else I can do though. I have Sky shackles that are a couple inches longer already. Have you heard of people using even longer shackles?

Yeah you could use longer shackles but what you'll end up doing is just making your caster further and further off.  I'd do what DTB said.  I know it sucks but thats the proper fix.

Unfortunately, not an option. Look at the top post on page 2 then consider that plate is what my bumper and winch mount is secured to. I would have to redo the whole bumper and spend a lot of time cutting, and grinding to get the plates off the front and back of the hanger.

ok well the other option is to move the rear shackle frame point further back.  OR run a shorter spring.  Other wise you will screw up another set of springs.  Not trying to rain on your parade just telling you the facts.

Yeah, those are pretty much my only options. Are Toyota rears shorter? How much longer than stock fronts are they?

Marlins website for the front springs are supposed to be 1.5" longer than stock.

TG says there springs are 47" total length eye to eye.

Hope that helps.

So you should be able to build a custom pack with a stock rear main then whatever you want from there.

I've built a couple that I used 2 sets of rear springs like this
-1. Stock main
-2. Stock main with ears cut off
-3. Stock 2nd leaf
-4. Stock 3rd
-5. Stock 3rd cut down
-6. Stock 4th
-7. Stock 5th or a 4th cut down.

Yeah that was me all right. I was just cruising and joking with my buddy in the passenger seat while not paying real close attention to where I was driving and flopped over. Of all the cool things I have made it through, the time I get in a magazine is when I am doing the most lame thing ever.

I pulled the axle apart tonight and fortunately the only thing broken was the ring and pinion. The Longfields didn't have a scratch on them. I thought the welded diff exploded and took out the ring gear but the welded diff held up just fine. The ring gear is probably missing 25 teeth and there is a big chunk out of the pinion as well.  The high pinion was a dealer take out item that only had 33K on it when I got it which kinda surprises me that it broke before anything in the t-case or even my welded 4.10 4cylinder diff in the back. The more I think about it I think it was just the conditions of the hill rather than accumulated abuse.

It doesn't look like it bottomed out hard if it did. There aren't big dents or anything.

Here are the springs before I changed them. Keep in mind that was a 5" spring. There used to be 7" of shaft showing on the shock at ride height when installed. The new springs are in but I don't have pictures yet.
