Thanks guys!  :usa:  So the cat is back on.  :thumbdown:     I am praying to god that I can get a deputy to sign off on this ticket and avoid the ref. I have been told by someone who has been reffed three times that they always put a sticker on the back of the ticket in the box where a signature is required for the fix it ticket to be signed off. I was also told the officer would have explained to me that i will have to take my vehicle to the referee by this date and yadayada... My ticket does not have a sticker on it so a deputy is still capable of signing the back of the ticket. I was also never told to go to the reff nor was I given a phone number to call.  Im ready to get this over with.  I hate the system and I want out.

I tried to get a 00 4runner gas tank to fit in my rig today haha.  It sits a little low... i also made a support bracket for the intercooler piping on the cold side.  My computer is down. So no pics :(

Hey guys, does anyone have a wiring diagram that shows the vss wires for the 84-88 sr5 instrument cluster? My computer is down and I've been coming up short on the old interweb on the phone..  thanks in advance!

 :headscratch:  IIRC, it was just a matter of hooking up the green wire from the brake switch to the ECU.

I haven't decided which route to take... in the process of properly installing the remaining smog equipment... worst comes to worst I pull the turbo and put er back to stock and get it reffed.. whatever.. up the value of my truck and have a badge of honor haha

Now that the oil return bung has been welded into the pan and the exhaust is done.. the remove and replace process of the turbo would only take the lesser part of a day... i just hope the extended manifold studs still fit the stock header. Which they should..

The VSS signal comes from the speedo on the older trucks. You can use that for the VSS to the ecm. That is how mine wired and it works fine.

By the way this thread has inspired me, i just got a great deal on a Borg Warner K-16-24 dual scroll turbo off an XC- 60 Volvo with 35k on it. Worth 25 bucks lol.

If you give me the year of your truck, and the donor truck year, i can get you the schematic for the clusters and powetrain. I have tons of repair info at my disposal.

You get that tach working yet?

The tach is working great with the resistor mod!  I have an 84 SR5 gauge with tach, donor is a 2000 4runner 4x4 manual 3rz COP (4 coil) That would rock. Gonna get this CEL to go away. Surprised the bulb has lasted this long haha

Hey the difference in in the wiring harness and colors what year is your truck, it is easier to decipher the schematic at the ECM as the VSS input.

Ok the problem I am seeing is the newer motor uses a hall effect sensor for the VSS, the hall effect is a digital signal that is sent to the ECM at 4 pulses per revolution. Now the problem lies on how the systems work. Usually on the hall effect sensor the ECM would send a voltage out on the signal wire, and as the hall effect is running it effectively grounds the wire. The computer see the ground as one pulse. The VSS in the cluster on the older trucks are just a switch that turns on and off, since one end is connected to ground I am assuming that the ECM is sending out 12v on the wire and is being grounded. I did not test this fact on mine, since the 97 and 89 had the same component test for the VSS in cluster, so I just hooked them up and called it a day.

Might have to check the VSS + wire on the ecm to see if there is voltage on it, if there is I think it will work fine hooked to the cluster, if there is no voltage, it is looking for voltage being sent by the transmission mounted hall effect VSS and the cluster will not work, well not as a direct hook up.

The 01' Tacoma has the VSS signal go to the speedo and then it is modified to a 4 pulse and sent to the ecu....

How much mula did you get that intercooler for?

Ill double check on that in a bit! Id assume theyre the same. thanks for the information. So you just cut the B4 (green with blue stripe) wire and tap it into the 3rz ecu vss signal wire and done?
