My old evo had 2.5 aftermarket intercooler pipes.  I remember the biggest gain was from the way the pipes were routed, taking out a sharp bend.  They drastically helped spool up.   For my power level, around 400 at the crank, the stock intercooler was still not restricting it.  Considering that thing hit 23lbs of boost, I think with 2' you should be safe up to 10lbs of boost.  Im speculating.

Yeah I'm at 2" piping now.  It spools pretty quick... quick enough that's for sure.

All of this fun stuff needs to find a home. Ecu/harness/IAT sensor/ Boost controller.. i have been told to install the IAT Sensor behind the throttle plate in the actual intake manifold.. i wanted to weld it into the intercooler piping just before the throttle body.  I was told that won't be as efficient. I'd like to keep the labor down to a minimum, but you gotta do what you gotta do..  well see. I may start with welding it into the IC piping.. if that doesn't work well enough then I'll take the plunge on removing the intake manifold and getting a new bung to have tigd into the intake manifold. If anyone has any pointers, im all ears.

If you put it in before the flap as it were, it will confuse it with the air rushing over it, where as in the manifold or plenum chamber it has chance to slow down and become turbulent but i would have thought that the difference would be minimal...
I assume it compensates for the fact its 'charged as intake temps get high 176'f arent uncommon

I bet the iat changes 10-20+ degrees between the intercooler and the throttle body if the pipes get hot from the engine. I bet you could get away with it in the intercooler pipe close to the intake side.could you drill and tap the intake manifold without having to take it off? I've done that on lots of diesels for a boost guage.

I was thinking about that. Just using lots of grease to collect the debris before it falls in.. dang aluminium is so soft 8th makes me nervous to do so.. there aren't many options for iAT location on the mani either..

If it was cast steel then Id drill/tap it then use a magnet to get the shavings.  You could drill and tap it then stick a good shop vac to the hole.  Still kinda sketchy.

Back to business  :whip:

Pulled off the intake manifold today to tap it for the IAT. Finally gonna start installing the Megasquirt. Probably gonna have the dash out in a few hours.

I did the math the other day and the 3RZ swap has already paid for itself a few times just in the cost of oil for the old 22R. This 3RZ doesnt burn a drip any oil. I havent had to add a drop.. EVER.. I thought it was low once.. aded half a quart.. got home and checked itr again.. I was half a quart over... I really like this motor!

What have you found to be the sweet spot for pressure on your MTRs? I've only had mine out twice and I'm trying to get them to hookup like my Maxxis used to but so far they aren't doing it. I've been told that I just need to find the right pressure with them and that they have a break in period.

I run them between 8-18 psi... and yeah.. sometimes they work... sometimes they dont. I have had experiences where I climb right up an obstacle... then next trip out I try again and make an ass of myself trying to get up and over the same thing... i think 12 psi is a good number for these tires.... it's all about how heavy of a load you're carrying... i think I'm gonna sell my mtrs... they're still really fresh... i don't daily it anymore so I can justify throwing some better wheeling tires on it.

Yeah I was running 12 last outing and wasn't doing so well. Going to drop to 8 and see how they do.
