you did it man! looks good, :clap2:

yea i was gonna say it sounds a little rough but so did mine at first especially with the cam and over sized valves.

break in the cam and check for leaks and try and get all the air out of the cooling system best u can and ur set!

oh also stay away from the synthetic oil for awhile, putney always told me to run the dino stuff for the life of the motor.

i love my engnbldr/22reperformance motor.

I have my gauge cluster out.. I might be able to get pin numbers for you with the use of a ohm meter and some time.. Is that what your having an issue with?

If you truly hit a brick wall on this  :wall:, I will donate a day to the cause... I'm sure it's something minor, there's really not much to the electrical on these rigs. I have 20+ years in automotive electrical, building manufacturers demo cars for SEMA & CES. Can you trailer it to my shop in Campbell? Where is the rig? Depending how far away you are I might even be willing to come to you...

Did you do a harness swap? I took the complete harness from the donor 87 4runner and put it in my truck

Well that's why I post here! The re swap has for the most part been pretty simple and the added reliability and fuel savings of the 22re makes it worth it. Plus it's pretty cheap to get ahold of a 22re and build it. If I were to guess I probably have about 2000-2500 in this engine swap which isn't that bad considering I completely rebuilt the engine and gave it some performance goodies. I was looking at doing a 3rz swap but it just ended up costing way too much when everything got added up. I'm very happy with the 22re swap. If you have any questions along the way of your swap I'm more than willing to help you out. Good luck and have fun!

OCD i have a gauge cluster out of my truck right now.. If you want to come up to my shop in belmont we could probably figure out my cluster so we can tell him what he needs to hook up the RE harness to the 22r gauge cluster.. If i remember correctly the cluster has what looks like a board and all the connectors route through.. Like an old scool main electrical board.. Too lazy to go look right now but pretty sure we could get it to go right..

Ok heres a little wiring tech for all you guys that are thinking about doing this 22re swap. Basically if you are using the donor truck dash harness all you have to wire in are you ignition, gauges, and the headlight, blinker switches. Now heres what you do for the ignition switch

Here is what a stock Carbed ign switch looks like

Notice how theres 5 wires on it now heres what a efi ign switch looks like

Now this has 7 wires going to it. Now what you gotta do is splice some wires together to make it work. Now what wires do you splice together? Well thats easy.

Toyota was kind enough the keep the wire colors the same throughout the years so its easy to see what wires match up and get spliced together but what about the two extra wires? Well if you look closely at the pics of the ign switches above you will see that each wire is labeled ign, acc, st1, am etc... Well the efi switch has 2 ig wires and 2 am wires basically all you have to do is splice both of those wires to the single ig and am wires on the carbed ign switch and your done! Yes its that easy. And everything works perfect.

Now just wrap them up with some tape and wrap the whole bundle together and your done!

Now onto the headlight switch, horn, blinkers
This is also easy. I did not take any pics but there are no differences between the years as far as wire colors and functions go. Basically all you have to do is cut and splice together your old wires to the new harness wires by simply matching the wire colors and your done!

And now the gauges. Now this was a pain in the ass. Trying to get the stock gauges to work is pretty hard if you do not have alot of wiring experience and the factory service manuals for both the year of your truck and the year of the donor vehicle. I spent a weekend trying to figure it out with no luck so im taking my truck into yodaman my local toyota offroad specialist and hes gonna wire in my stock gauges for $200 way worth it if you ask me

Questions???? :gap:

nice write up man! looks good.

if u have yodaman wire the cluster up, have him take pics for you so that way u can post it up for reference for other future 22r to 22re swappers.
