BTW, I love your truck man. I never liked the RUF/Chevy 63's until I looked at your build. Even though I didn't go that path, hybrid OME type deal, I still appreciate your suspension setup.

And hurry up and put 35's on this thing!

Got the 22re pulled today. Pretty easy to do I just unpluged the engine harness from the ecu pulled the wiring through the firewall into the engine bay and started disconnecting stuff. I made sure to label everything clearly so I dont forget what goes where. I also decided that im going to swap in the entire 4runner harness into my truck as well as the steering column. That way the only thing i have to wire would be my stock 1980 gauges and thats it! So i think thats going to be the easiest way to do things. I also cleaned my engine bay in my first gen so it will be nice and shiny for the install. I'll shut up now heres some pics.

More progress. Got the 22re apart and everything looks good no major problems with the engine so thats a plus! So i went ahead and ordered a bunch of goodies for my engine and the truck. I got a brand new engnbldr head with oversized valves, rv valve springs, and their 261c Crawler cam. I also got their 4 piece front set that includes a new steel rail timing kit, Timing Cover, Oil Pump, and Water Pump. And then i called up 22re performance and ordered a gasket seal kit, a new fuel filter, injectors, injector seal kit etc.... I also ordered some of marlins high output front headlights so im not driving blind any more as well as new tail light lens, and new marker lights. Anyways heres the pics.

So is that your finished harness?

I wanna know more about what all you have to take out or add to the 22re harness to get it to work in our truck. I figured maybe having to mate the gauges and ignition switch? I have no clue, but I'm getting anxious to do this swap.

No thats the tail lights and fuel tank wires. I took out all the unnecessary wires from those wires like the rear window wires and all the things the 4runner had that mytruck doesnt. As for the dash harness basically im not taking much out ofit and there are 3 things you need to splice. The first is the ignition switch, second being the turn signals/wiper switch/headlight switch, and the last thing being the guages. The ignition and turn signals are very easy to splice because the harnesses use the same color wires for the same use so you literally just have to splice the same colors together. Its that simple. And the gauges i still havent figured out yet i will report back to here once i figure out the gauge splices.

It's hard to imagine without looking at it. Lol

Did you have to swap over the old style plugs to the body harness? For like the headlights and tail-lights.

So it's pretty much like pull both harnesses. Clean up the 22re of extra crap. Wire in necessary body plug-ins, plug in 22re harness in the body, mount fuse boxes etc, run it behind the dash, splice in the ignition, gauges, turn signals from behind the dash, plug it all in and I assume your using the 22re ignition box(inside the engine bay). Close enough? Lol

Then it's stuff like the inline fuel pump and return line, tranny mount, driveshaft work.

Then laugh at other 22r stalling out on steep hills? lol

1985CRAWLER

the thing looks cherry!

same color scheme i went with, powder coat or high temp paint?

prepare for the motor to smoke alot on the first start, once the paint burns in all over it goes away.

You know if I wasn't in such a hurry to get this done I woulda powder coated it but it's just high temp paint which still looks great and will last awhile.
