Tacoma Buying info
« on: Feb 23, 2012, 06:25:20 PM »
Im looking at buying a 1998 Tacoma Xcab 4x4 TRD V6 Auto with 215k I drove it around and seemed to drive fine maybe a little loud but drove good the 4x4 and elocker work great, the bottom of the truck looks clean and the body is strait, the drivers seat is ripped (maybe more city driving?) what areas are problematic at 200k+ Im going to use it 50% Daily driver, 40% crawler/trails, and 10% light girl thingy prerunning desert, Im worried that I may break something prerunning it with this high of miles and Im keeping it IFS, the plastic top piece of the radiator was replaced a few weeks back when I was driving it it didn't seem to run hot. Also the light in the dash is out and the parking break sensor shows that the parking break is on are these cheap/easy to replace?
For what I'm going to be using it for is it likely I will break the engine or have any other major issues, I know they hit 300k+ but I don't want to be spending thousands on broken parts.

Thanks

rmoore

What is the asking price?  If  its in the 4-5k price it would be worth it to me.The e-brake light sensor is right behind the handle. Easy fix.  Theres a good chance youll need to do the T-belt and water pump. Other than that just the normal maintenance.

Lifted or stock? Yea. What is the asking price. 4-5k definitely a good deal. My Tacoma is almost exactly the same. I have just over 200k. It runs really well. Its starting to get older. It uses a slight amount of oil. Maybe a half a quart between oil changes. Spark plugs, e brake cable, brakes, clutch, timing belt, water pump, ball joints, cv shafts steering rack and power steering pump have been the things i have fixed since 150k when i bought it. I don't know much about the automatics. If i were to buy my truck again i would find a stock one. Most of my problems have been due to an inexpensive lift kit which wore out components prematurely.
