Decided to experiment with a roll cage mounted defroster:

Ordered several weeks ago. Took forever to come from overseas but price was decent.
Not sure if it will stay mounted there or get moved.  I have an idea for a shield to help eliminate glare on the inside.

Will need to rework my  sun visor but should be easy

Then I was
Glad you got a laugh Mike :beerchug:

Night shot, just the light bar..needs to be re-aimed

Definitely need some form of shield to block the inside glare-

it may get moved down to the top of the bumper and high lift get evicted to the rear bumper during trail runs..

My small LED bar is inside the glass.  It reflects on the dash.  I like it because it's safe and unseen by most.  If I can't stop the reflection by sealing the thing tight to the glass it will get moved to the bumper.

Question: Are you guys at risk of a ticket? I thought there was a law that if you add any lights that are mounted higher than your factory headlights then you must have a light cover over them at all times while driving on public roads....?

legally yes.  In oregon you are supposed to be limited to 4 forward facing lights (in use at one time) .  It seems that they leave you alone as far as overhead lights as long as you are smart about them.  Several trucks in my area have a lot of roof/cage mounted lights.  I think what attracts attention is a combination of lights/noise/tire coverage in the way of lack of flares and mudflaps.

I have an old style dimmer switch I plan to mount on the floor that will control power to the light bar in case I forget and have the light on.
I have a strip of left over Lexan from when I redid my side windows that should make a decent shield to help prevent some glare from coming in.  I will paint it flat black and see how it works.   Just need to get some card board to make a pattern.

Well one nice thing about the inside the cab mount is that it's harder for any law enforcement to see!

There is that plus it is a little more secure  mounted inside too.  . how the inside mount works out..time and a nice run will help determine if it stays there...

Did a little prep work this afternoon:
No more zip tied license mounts--

.

My back ordered Christmas present the missus got for me finally came in after about 7 weeks:

I will need to do a rework of the core support to get enough room,  when I mounted the Trail Gear winch tray about 6 years ago I didn't know that they needed to be spaced out about 1/2" when mounting them on 79-83 Toyota trucks.  It will also give me the opportunity to beef up the cross member to give it a little more strength  when winching.

I'm thinking my risk is small.  I drove by a cop on the highway with mine accidentally on.  Fortunately is wasn't on flash mode.

I have pulled two people over with it.  So fun!

thanks.  I kind of like it, but I just realized I can't used the 2" reciever mounted under the winch mount using a roller fairlead. I may pick up a hawse fairlead.

This the only pic I have.  It is screwed through the headliner and the first layer of metal in the roof.  It is from STL(Speed Tech Lighting)

Mine has 6 -  3watt LEDs with 3 modes.  All on, and two flash modes.  One is all 6 flashing and the other is 3 by 3 alternating on each side of the bar.

The 3x3 flashing really looks like a cop light even though it's not blue.

You can pick up a low profile roller fairlead.  It should give you enough clearance.  Unless you plan to run synthetic line in the future.

You sir are the man.  I found one, will have to wait to order it but I think this one will work if I can find out the exact dimensions.

i would have to tweak the plate mount slightly but that would be easy to make it work
here is an old front view when I was test fitting the winch plate.  I am not sure if the low profile will work, but willing to give it a shot.

That would be awesome and a big help. I would love to go with a smaller roller fairlead and avoid a hawse fairlead.

A 2nd receiver is also an option but getting the welding done is kind of a pain. My welding skills and welder aren't up to something with pulling stresses.

Isn't any where outside Portland not required to do DEQ?  My friend in St. Helens has no smog check.

Make your rig 10,000 GVW or over you'll be exempt.  Ha.

I have accumulated way too many lights over the years.  Threw some on the front.   Not sure if I like them or not.  Upper set are 45w long throws, bottom set of 27w floods.  With the additional 32" light bar they should light up the night..

Down sized the tow rig today.  Needed something that would be both easier on the wallet and to get around in.  I hated to see the Big Red One go away but this one can still tow when I need it to and not take up an entire side of the driveway..

so i saw these cool flush mounted 16w LED flood lights on ebay and thought they would be nice but I couldn't justify the $110 or so price for them, i had a bunch sitting in a drawer in the garage..

i got to thinking, i have a couple of DOA turn signals that I was about to toss and an empty slot on each side of my rear lights...so a little time with a dremel and other cutting tools yielded me this:

i will try to get a night shot after dark..
cutting up the old turn signals made it easy to mount in the existing rubber gasket but I may redo the mounting surface sometime and use some lexan or something..
