I like them mounted between the seats on the back of cab, as far as attenna the best place is in the center of truck with solid ground

I installed my CB radio where my dome light used to be. removed the light and had a nice place to mount it with power already ran to it.

Edit: I also have a 29 which is why I mounted it up there instead of the radio pocket. To big, they don't fit.

If I hit it just right, I might make it.

yet another reason why Ham radios are cooler then CB's

My Ham (Yaesu ft-7900) as well as most mobile ham radios have the ingenious ability to detach the face plate and mount it away from the radio, the face becomes a 1.5" deep face that is super easy to mount. I mounted mine on a simple metal bracket in front of my map lights on my 3rd gen pickup.

If I install a CB into my rig, I will get the cobra cb that has the controls mounted in the mic

or

but otherwise I will just use some FRS/GMRS radios for the people in my group who dont have a Ham License (which are stupid easy to get)

If you have a 2nd gen or newer, the front of the glove box works well, unless you have one of the large heavy CB's.  You can re-drill the brackets so the CB sits flush to the front,

a backing plate on the backside will prevent the screw/bolts from pulling through or deforming the glove box.

In my '91 the cable wasn't long enough to reach the glove box, and being too cheap to buy a longer one, I mounted it to the trans tunnel.

In my 2nd gen, I got it mounted right below the radio where the pocket used to be, because thats the best place. And its not a knee knocker.

But we need to also know what rig you got.

I'v got a 87 4runner first gen, I do have a cb mounted under radio but I don't like how it's mounted and just wanted to look for some other idea's of where else i could mount it at. Second, it also has a magnetic antenna on the roof is that a decent antenna or should i look into buying one that mount's on quarterpanel, it seems to get okay reception but would one of those antenna's be more powerful? sorry about all the question's but this is my first 4wd i have ever owned and am just trying to find out as much info as possible.

I've seen sideways on the kick panel in front of the door with a mike mount up from that. I liked it but some people may hit their leg on it if they move it that far over...

Get a good antenna, and a good radio, no magnets.  I have a Ham but its just plain gay on the trail.  Yes I have a license but it isn't worth it unless you want to talk all day.  I only need my plain old CB to talk to my buddies on the trail.  Everyone has one and you don't need a some sorta crap to carry one. You'll get a better conversation on a modified CB with a linear than you will ever on a ham radio.

In my 82 Toy the CB is mounted on the trans tunnel also. Its a great spot and easy for myself and passenger to grab it.

In my '90 X-cab, no one has ever hit the cb with their knees, even my buddy who is 6'5" hasn't had any issues.  The same for the cb in my '91 on the trans tunnel.  Even with wet snow boots, none of my passengesr have gotten it wet.  However in 2nd and 1st gens it could be a bit of an issue with either set-up, especially with the larger CB's.

What are the dimensions of your c.b. MORTALIZER? I have an 87 4Runner and mounted mine on the trans tunnel in front of the trans shifter.

I also have an 87' 4runner. To solve the problem of where to mount the box I bought the cobra wx 75 st which has a very small box that can be hidden remotely and has all the controls and the display on the handset. I have it coming out of the dome light block off cover. When not in use I remove the handset and toss it in the glove box and it is like I don't have a CB at all.

I think I'm going to mount mine on the trans hump. Anyone know how many feet of cable to use?

That is where I mounted mine. It is very nice if you don't need to change the dial often. Otherwise its difficult to see what you are doing without stopping.

From this 2005 thread, http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=10357,
