I am wondering if you guys would recommend trying to setup my 529'e myself I am not a mechanic but do all the work on my yota myself with good results thus far. I have read so many forums on installing gears in yota 3rd's and it seems easy enough but it also seems that there is no room for error. Is setting the backlash an easy or pain in the ass job. How many hours per 3rd is the average to do this job with the 3rds on the bench ready to go? If I was to pay someone to do this for me what do you guys feel is a fair price to pay per 3rd to have this done? Thanks in advance for your comments...
I set up my first third a few months ago. It wasn't too difficult if you have the right tools and know what your are doing. The more you do it the faster/ easier it gets. As far as tools go, do you also have a in/lb beam style torque wrench? Those are really important.I would say go for it. There is plenty of help out there if you need it and you will be able to say you did it yourself.
I dont have the proper torque wrench you are talking about but I can buy one !!! Thanks for all the positive comments you guys got me leaning torwards trying it myself.......
Those are some huge welds!
i have done tons of thirds. I have all the tools i need, including the best of all, a pinion bearing that is wallered out so i dont have to press it on and off to set pinion depth. even before i had all the "special" tools i set up alot for myself, never had a problem except for some loud gear sets....
a loud gear means its not set up right
