What muffler are you running. I started mine with the same muffler as my 2rz and the 2rz sounded better than the v8.  Unless i really open it up. I think I might go to a dynomax race bullet, at least for racing

man this build is sweet.  I haven't finished my 85 runner and have a few planned after that, this has just inspired yet another one.  I work at a Lexus dealership so I see these cars all the time.  Now just to find a junked one for cheap.  I am already in trouble for the parts and projects I have laying around.  I am probably going today to get the sheet metal clamps you posted on here those should help a ton.  I have always tried to figure out how to get a C clam or vice grip on to hold the body parts together.

Just a few updates.  I finally broke down and bought a winch and some 17" beadlocks.   Been wheeling for 15 years and never had either one.

...and as you can see body #3 is taking a pounding.   It will be that last one.    Tube and links are in my future.

They've always been my favorite.   There were expensive, but any good beadlock is and I figured it was about time to get some decent wheels since I had always been using used junk i found in local classifieds.

***Also broke my first rear axle shaft last weekend.    I should have known better since the way the truck was wedged and the tires were sticking to the rocks really good.   I just tapped the gas a bit harder and POW!!   upgrading to chromoly.

Hey Toymin8r whats your driving style? Slow and easy or fast and hard? How is the auto tranny working for you? Im back and forth on the manual vs. auto with this motor and would love to do one.

V6 diffs are hoding up better than the stock rear axle shaft did...it's broke now.   I'm upgrading to chromoly.

Mostly slow and easy but I have been known to go fast and hard every now and then.  I have not regretted the automatic at all....It's been great other than not liking super steep inclines.  Fluid transfer sometimes makes it shift into neutral if I try to climb something too steep.   The car tranny pan is much smaller than the trucks and I'm hoping the extra quart or so of fluid that the truck pan holds will remedy this.

Would modifying the pan be an option? Lower sump or baffle?

Yeah but I think it would be easier to get a pan and filter from a 4x4 truck version of the same tranny.

Actually with a Tacoma you don't even need the adapter.  All you need is a doner A340F from a 1996-2002 4WD Tacoma or 4Runner to get the factoy t-case adapter and output shaft.  I needed the Inchworm adapter to use the older right side drop transfer cases.

I know this quote is a bit old but I had a question. Should I take the above statement as, you could use a 1UZ/Taco A340F/Marlin adaptor to gear driven case.

You will still need the Lexus transmission.  You can use the output from the Taco transmission so it bolts to in your case the Marlin transfer case adapter.  I suppose you could use the Taco transmission but you will need the Lexus bellhousing, and I think the input shaft on the pump is longer so you will need it from the Lexus, along with the torque converter.  Then I don't know how well the taco transmission will communicate with the Lexus ECM.    The bottom line is you will need parts of both transmissions.

Okay so just use the lexus trans with the taco output. leave everything else the same and now you don't need that adapter. Correct?
