Nice. Will the MC 25mm pin work in those? Those arms look beefy.

I don't know.  If the holes on the FJ80 axle are the same as a mini trucks I don't see why they wouldn't   The steering arms are designed to allow bearing pre-load to be adjustable instead of shimmed so that may affect compatibility too..

Adjustable pre-load without the need for shims? That does sound cool.

Working my :moon: off to get the truck ready for a wheeling event this weekend.  Unfortunately I haven't had any test time behind the wheel other than driving up and down my driveway about 20 times.    I hope everything goes ok.

Long story....read page 9.   The bottom line is that I can do body work faster and cheaper than I can get an exo built.   This is the 3rd body that has been on this truck and I'll just buy the bender build the exo myself and put a 4th body on it if need be.

The good news is the truck performed great mechanically.

The bad news is I flopped it and took out the whole right side of the truck and some of the roof!

On the bright side I'm getting pretty good at body work.

Damn Steve, learn how to drive.....lol  :) Sorry to hear about the mishap buddy. If ya give me a month of weekends I could turn ya out a nice cage, but now your gonna have to spend another year, fixing them dents....I guess your luck is like mine has been lately. :-\

I gave two different people a total of 8 months and was only able to get part of a cage built for it, which I ripped back off because nobody wanted to finish it.   It's really not that bad.  The worst part is that damn Hanneman fiberglass fender.  I wish I would have never bought them things.  I can get a door and bed side easily and paint it.  That and a small amount of body work on the cab.   I'm probably gonna leave it like it is until I build my 4Runner and buy a bender.

Were ya wanting an overly difficult design, er nitpicking, er what? Other than trying to do it as side work, where family, and life comes 1st, I just dont understand why they couldnt get it done. I'm just thinking there is more to the story, but I'll leave the subject alone if ya wish, I'm getting the drift you are scorned.

PS I'm dreaming of your motor swap still. Awesome stuff!

Let me know how you like those knuckles and steering arms. I know billy, the owner of hellfire fabworks. Those are quality parts. It's no secret that toyota mini truck axles can not handle the beatings people are putting them thru these days. It won't be long till people are sourcing after market axles or going with something like this set up. I'm sure you will love them. I was actually at billy's house the day he cut the proto type arms. VERY NICE.

:dunno:  I guess I wasn't used to all that power because I flopped partially due to too much throttle.

I will.   I'm still gathering parts for the axle - couldn't afford to build it all at once.  It will probably be spring before it finds it's way under the truck.

Definitely.  I couldn't tell when I was still strapped in the truck but once I got out I could see how close it was to going over all the way and rolling ALL the way down the hill.  It did slide about 3 feet down the hill on it's side.

Went on my 2nd wheeling trip since finishing the truck.   Mechanically it performed perfectly.  The lone issue I had was the power steering fluid got hot and started puking fluid towards the end of the day.  It never affected how it worked but I'll need to address it before I burn up a pump.  I don't think the Lexus pump is as strong as the stock truck's pump.  I am using the LS400 pump with the build on reservoir right now but I will switch to the SC400's remote reservoir version when I add my hydro assist.  I can use a larger reservoir that way and hopefully keep the temps down.

you running it through a cooler?   or fan?

i had the same type of issues w/ full hydro heating up constantly... ended up getting a cheap radiator and fan to help cool it down.

Just went on it's 3rd wheeling trip since finishing the swap and the power steering is definitely becoming a problem.   Mainly going down hill.  If I keep it in a lower gear to raise the rpms it helps but hydro assist is a must if going any bigger than a 35" tire.  I think the auto transmission changes the way you have to wheel a bit too.  Before when I had a stick and needed more power assist you could feather the clutch a bit to get the rpms up without increasing velocity.  That don't work with a automatic.

I guess I need to either speed up my plans for my linked FJ80 front axle swap or just install the hydro assist on the current axle.

Just thought I'd update this thread a bit.   I've taken it wheeling several times and other than a failed Jeg's thermo switch for the cooling fan everything has been great mechanically.  Since nothing has broke I have chosen to not do anything else to it yet.

Some recent wheeling pics.
