blown up crawl box help?!?!?
« on: Dec 30, 2009, 10:42:30 PM »
well i took my truck out for its major break in run. I installed my cralw box with a buddy it sounded fine out of truck  but when i first used it it whined like a mother. in dubble low. and when no load but movment of the case driveing two wheel drive i hurd light grinding dident thinking much of it :headscratch:. Paying more attention to the what the gears sounded like diveing in dubble low and two wheel.  it sounded like  one of those tractors that whine when they go down the road.  with some talking to of a buddy of mine we had came to that may be it was the gears some cases whine and some dont so i ran it. so i want out on its break in run  and my cralw box blew out 3/4 throughout the day it happend when i was in third gear going down a slight hill i let off the gas in singal case 4 low 2wheel. At about 3500 it made a  loud whineing and the a bang and grinding  and thats it.  all stop no power any gear .  and talking for a min i tried to  go no power to wheels  shift out into high range in my cralw box and i had power and i proceeded to wheel the the rest of the day  i had droven to where i was wheeling about 25 miles away from my house so i had to get home so with that i took it easy but had to wheel to get out so but it was wird the 4 low gear main bareing faild and caused the gear to be free to move around so when i was wheeling out and driveing home the whole time the gear kept floating around and got all f*$#@ up in there the cralw adptor  got messed up a bit to i was wondering if i could post a pix check it out

did you top off the crawl box up through the top where the shifter mounts?  sounds like it was running dry

they don't have oil in them, you are supposed to pull the check plug on the rear case, fill through the front case(crawl box), and wait for it to fill.  if you didn't fill through the shifter in the crawl box, you probably ran it low and burned it up.  just my  :twocents:

They don`t come with gear oil in them, so you probably burned up the bearings and gears. So now you have an expensive paper weight.

First thing to do is get some pics of it.  And post them here in your post.  Good pics, not crappy ones.
And then call Marlin and talk to those guys there.  They can help diagnose what happened.

That will be your best option at this point!  Sometimes its hard to get them to reply to the forum, Brendon does try to check the forum, but it usually is on his own time.

You are gonna need at least 12 posts.  And sign up for Photobucket and download them there and link them to a post.  Or use [>] Additional Options.... to the lower left of the post box.  Your pics will have to be 140KB or smaller.

did you not see the pixs dam man pesistent no they had  oil in them and hey maybe you are party right i had used the wrong gasget maker so some might have leaked out and that my have ben part of why this  bareing failed but i think the main cause for failuer here was that this bareing just needed replaced it was bad and overused.the bareing  roller race blew but from what i can tell that bareing blew firse allowing the gear to wander around and cause the needel bareing to fail but and the gear to strip. i took out a lot when i removed the cases. the main roler bareing was bad can you not see that from the pixs  in the cralw box i put in was bad dident know it at the time

theres a really good reason i asked that question,  because the oil will not run thru to the front bearing before it gets hot

unless you dumped 1 quart of gear oil in the top of the front crawl box it didnt have enough oil

was this a second hand crawlbox??

again wheres the pictures of the adapter??

Easy on the defense there dude. The thing was run low on oil, and depending on how low, that could have been done in about 30 miles.  It doesn't mean that you ran it low on oil, just means that it happened.

I have a wide screen monitor so they are not the same rows for me.  The second row second pic is gear.

I am guessing that this one is the adapter?

I agree. One qt through the shifter, only way to KNOW that the oil got in there!

That pic does not give us enough to go on.  If I HAD to judge from just the pic, I would say run it.
