A little pre heating is needed before being able to put full amperage to the weld. This helps bring out all the air pockets and impurity's. There is no need to heat up the whole thing first like cast iron.

BTW stainless rod works well on cast iron.

I think aluminum is easy to weld with the right equipment and fun too. Sure does suck up a lot of heat though.

The welding on the housing is done. Once it cools down it's time for machining.

All day again and not without many problems, IT'S DONE. The trans is done and the transfercase is attached. It even works.

After re welding the shifter hole and re boring it. Modifying the shifter thinigy so there was enough room to shift into 1st and 3rd. Modifying the shifter base to fit on the now super short tailshaft housing and welding it with DC positive.  :screwy: (I thought something was strange about the way it was welding.)

Anyway the Tcase needs to come back off to get sealed up, then everything is done and oil can be added.  :bananasplit:

when i was welding alot of aluminum we would  hit it with a torch  ,,then weld the cast ,,or heavy alum, ,,then hit the welds with a airchisle with a round  or blunt end on it to destress the welds,,,,very awsome work you have done  i hope when you come down to fresno i can get underit and look at it  ,,just awsome

I managed to get the trans and Tcases in tonight before I decided to power lounge for a while.

Tomorrow I want to try to get the engine bolted to the trans and start figuring out the motor mounts.

Does that come with a 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty?

How do you keep the alignment correct with all of the cutting and welding?   :dunno:

Alignment? Warranty? What are these you speak of?  :screwy:

Alignment, that is where everything is fitted together and tacked welded. Then everything is machined square again after welding because of the warpage from welding.

We don't need no stinkin warranty, I will have to fix it myself. People are going to say " You did what, you can't do that"  :shake_head:

Thanks

I just tried to put the engine and

I am missing only one little part called a pivot ball. It goes under the clutch fork in the bell housing. SO, I figured that rather than wait two weeks for that part, I will test fit the engine.

After removing the brake booster so the EGR will fit, it is in.
