"I have a flywheel on order" , But! I have no idea if it will come in. I could get everything from Aus, but the exchange rate just went through the roof.

I may have to go back to my idea of making an insert for the auto flywheel to convert it to a manual.

Still hopping the flywheel comes in though.

Ok, first a big thanks to Glen for the G54 bell housing.

Now not only will it not fit the 1KZTE, it also won't fit over the flywheel.

Do I see more casting in my future? :dunno:

:dunno: what about a 3.0 flywheel now?   it looks like its about the right size, seeing as it was an inch smaller than the one you've got.  :dunno:

1/2" and smaller teeth too. I doubt a V6 starter will turn over a diesel. Don't know if the Bendix could be switched on the starter.

I am also looking into getting the bell housing for the engine and adapting it to the G54.

I hope maybe Fongs can help here :crossed:

Besides I don't want a $900 flywheel just sitting here collecting dust.  :_oops:

I would like to step up to a R151F, but need time to get a short tail shaft made.

You mean METRICS.  Anybody else work at a place with a "dashboard" to monitor the metrics?

I think mrswillymammoth needs to be promoted to manager and she should have daily meetings with Mark to status his progress.

Today the gold plated flywheel showed up.

This thing is crazy looking. It is two pieces connected by a damper. The pressure plate surface moves free from the flywheel.
It also weighs 57 lbs.

wow...it's a dual-mass unit.  Do you know what the damper consists of? The DM flywheels ford used in the older 7.3s had springs in there... :dunno:

That is going to be the only way to keep from making a super short drive shaft unless I loose the dual cases and that just ain't going to happen.

Who need s 5th gear anyway?  :sheerterror:

The L52, bottom is the shaft I have now. The top is a R151F. If I get rid of 5th gear it will get me closer to what I have now and then some.

I did something similar to this on a sammy transmision with tracker t-case gears. It worked good, Lots of work though and eventually the custom shaft I had all those hours into broke. I have not redone another one yet.

In this case all I would need to do is cut the shaft off and use the 5th gear spline for the coupler.

Still in the research stages, but I think this is a doable option.

Ok I like it. I had to also build a housing but we have all seen your back yard foundry. I have not looked but you may just need an adapter plate and jack shaft to hook to the first case. You had better get cutting.

Im thinking about taking the 5th gear and using the splines part to weld to a coupler and adapt the Tcase that way. Then cut the tailshaft housing down and weld a flange to it for the Tcase. With the extra length of the diesel bell housing that should put me about even with where I am now :crossed:

Can't say that I would miss it either, 4th and 5th could both be cut out. Freeway at 65 is 3rd gear at 2700rpm's so that wouldn't really be a problem.
