been screwing with the exo the past few days. turning out like :pokinit:, so im ripping out what iv done and am going to redo it with rolled tube. its impossible to do a clean close hugging exo on an extra cab tacoma with a regular bender. every part of the cab has a mild radius to it.

just doesn't look right when you have to try and make lots of 5* bends to flow with the body. getting the harbor freight roller, already ordered the swag off road 1.75 die kit for it. should hopefully make it look right.

Jud

I need to drag my toyota up there so we can build a tube bed and finish the front end... lol

still waiting on the parts for the tube roller, should be here soon. also ordered all the rear brake stuff. in the mean time while im waiting on stuff i installed 3 of the 4 rock lights. the last one will be somewhere on the rear when i finish it. they turned out pretty slick and are super bright. i dont think they will get taken out by a rock anytime soon,  im sure it will eventually happen but only time will tell. it would take a sharp rock to hit it just right to destroy the led. and if it happens its easy to replace out.

-Matt-

progress pics of the start of the cage, after wasting lots of time and tube, im finally starting to get the hang of it. got the back of the cab done. tube roller is working awesome, still needs a few mods though to make it better.

TacoRunner

Dam Matt that looks so sick. Are you going to be adding any gussets? Or maybe sheet protection between the tube on the lower half?

nice, i like the curves. honestly I havent seen that before. looks good dood

I am working on welding up a bent cage thing at work (hard to explain, ill take a pic tomorrow if youre interested) and it was fit up by a "professional" sandrail builder and the gaps are horrible!!! the fit sucks. I havent tried my hand at bending but the crappy fit this guy did, I could do it better lol.

Rolled is different i dont think it looks bad at all. The 2 bars going to the center make it seem over done but for a structural sense i see the reason.

ya i know what you mean about rolled tube. i tried to keep as much tubing out as i could but with the design if i were to remove any of it, it would compromise the strength a lot.

its jsut so hard to not go with the rolled tube on a tacoma. i tried at first with the standard way and it wasnt working out at all.

I think it looks very good.  No matter what you build, you are going to have people who don't like one thing or another.  I myself don't like exos usually unless they're on boxier 2nd gen Yotas, but I am really liking the start of yours quite a bit.  The rolled tube also gives some resemblance to the lines (or ovals) of the modern Toyota Sombero emblem, which I think is cool.  Keep on doing things your way.  I haven't seen any truck/non-buggy build that I like as much as yours, and I am sure a ton both here and pirate would agree.

Damn Matt you never settle for anything less than perfect haha looks sick

-Matt-

i messed with the side bars for a week, finally got them where i wanted. no joke these few bars were more difficult than anything else built on the truck so far. its like 7 pieces cut and sleeved together to get it how i wanted because its impossible to do it in one piece. besides what dives in behind the fender none of its straight. it all has different radius's to flow with the tacoma body better. the tough part on these body's is the way they have the door jams compared to the rest of the cab, and the little random hump on the extra cab part thats right behind the door. those 2 things along with the different radius's they used on the body made it really difficult to keep close and flow.

from what iv seen most people just do a straight shot and that works well but it has to be inches away from the body and it kinda looses the wavy tacoma look. not saying it looks bad doing it like that, just something i was trying to avoid, after the door it dives out to the side on the extra cab section. should make for a different look, and easy clean tie in to the other bars ill be adding.

I like the top where you followed the line of the cab its funky how toyota did that but you did a great job following it and making it look really good. I like it matt. I really cant wait to see the finished product. You gonna do a lower bar by the wipers too?
