Dingman.

I just don't understand how it would only be ONE tooth..

The previous diff i blew up, at least half the teeth were gone.

IronClad

it might be a few teeth but just one finally decided to let go.   :pokinit: happens in the heat treat process  or in the casting process. just sucks when you get a bad one..

Damn mike your shits fucked every time I get on the board these days your got another busted 3rd might as well sell out and go tons rockwells or portals.... :booya: if you want a good 5'29 ring gear i have a 3rd with a fucked pinion but a good ring gear is still legit I'll trade you the whole third for a stock 4'10 third

Dingman.

Tell me about it KC..

ill see what i can do in locating you a stock diff. Im done with putting questionable anything on the truck..
I need to pick up some new gears and go from there.

Goose

hey mike...    :rofl2:

Dingman.

Okay, so with everyone's opinion.. what is the strongest brand of gears?
5.29's, toyota v6.

I need to finally get this rear diff setup good so i don't have to worry about it.
I will put together my v6 rear diff again done with 4cyl diffs.

I have a solid pinion spacer already, which is supposed to help make them last.

Still undecided on what to do with the rear diff.. I don't want to weld it because i don't want to worry about the welds breaking.  Plus im done with the poor handeling.. I can live with it though.

SO for the back i really want to get a detroit so i might save up for that.  Just need to start saving/buying parts for the rear..

Need R&P set.
Need install kit (is it okay to reuse the old bearings? mine were only 6 months old)
And need to figure out what method to go for a rear locker.

axled89

i would think the bearings would be fine to re use.
i love oregon wheelin.

-Matt-

yukons are one of the best, don't get a Detroit. the way they work basically gives you massive amounts of backlash. you'll snap pinions with the way your going. either run it open of just man up and get an arb. there nothing wrong with running an open rear, you dont always need to be locked locked to go wheel or make it places

Dingman.

well i have the arb in the front.. lol
I kind of liked the thoughts of the detroit rear so i would never have to worry about my locker not working...

Ive thought about getting a spool for the rear.. but.. well see..

I just need someone to help me out who knows how to set these up, because i do not know how.

axled89

that is what i have v/6 third 5:29s yukon and a spool.   never any probs.   and yes solid spacer.
i love oregon wheelin.

Dingman.

I kind of don't want a spool, but at the same time.. not gonna break it, it will never wear out, never need to be rebuilt, and should never let me down..

But..  having it locked all the time has a lot of stress on the 4runner.  Thats my only concern.
I can deal with the tires wearing out.. The screeching in the parking lots get old, but i can live with it.

axled89

yea that is a down fall .  mine is not a dd so it makes no never mind to me.  tire's do were tho.

well if he gets a rear end that stays together then he should be ok  with any locker.
not really, there lots of different designs, and way lockers work. im not saying Detroits are bad, im just saying in your application (heavy runner with power) i really think you either need to be (spooled, open, or arb)

why are you so set on having a locker in the rear anyways, if it wasn't your DD i would understand on having a locker. but since its your dd why not just leave it open or have a selectable.?(do you have longs up front yet?)

Dingman.

I just like having the truck locked all around..  I don't mind running it open in the back for a little, its just different.

Yes i have longs up front with hub gears

-Matt-

i dont know man, soudns like you already know what you want to do but im just throwing advise out there, in your application i wouldt get a Detroit, and having only one locker and still going to the same places is only gonna make you a better driver.

your probably against it, but throw the arb in the rear, and find something else for the front

axled89

the arb's  are great for dd's.   i think matt has the right idea.   a selectable would be nice.  and if you want to just drive around with it turned on.    LOL!!
i love oregon wheelin.

this is how i think...you've been having issues with your rear diff lately, your runner is really heavy, you have a bigger/heavier more powerful motor in it. and your daily drive it up and down whindy roads every day. you like to go snow wheeling a lot. and generally are never driving really slow fully locked on dry pavement or solid granite (so not being able to steer up front really isn't an issue, so why have an arb up front when you have longs). so with that said. there's nothing stronger (realistically speaking) than a well setup yukon with a solid pinion spacer.. either open, or with an arb.

with that said 95% of the time your daily driving it you wont be stressing the rear diff. it will wear your tires out less, and give you a nicer ride. dont get me wrong an arb up front it nice, but i also think in your application a selectable in the rear is gonna be the way to go. just make a pros/cons chart on a piece of paper...it always works lol

Dingman.

I fully agree with you matt..

I guess the better solution..
Maybe you need to get those tons under your taco and sell me your tacoma rear end??

Yea i drive about 20 miles one way to work/school. and its windy roads about half way.

Jud

Don't put that high pinion on the rear though. They do not oil correctly because of the pinion up out of the oil bath and gravity.
