Oh, got it! It's because the VSS you're using also incorporates the cable drive for your speedo! Wasn't thinkinh about that. Yeah, already familiar with every other aspect of the electronics. Been wrenching on this stuff since way back! :)

I know, that's why your build will be awesome. Yes the VSS is part of the cable drive.

fordh8r

Awesome! And thanks! :beerchug: I figure since you used the GM transmission and I will be using the Toy manual, I will have to look more closely at the VSS adaptor that NWOR offers to be sure that it is like what you are using. I got a quick look at it and now thinking back, I believe it is very much the same thing since it is listed in their GM V6/V8 conversion parts listings along with all the other adaptations for the swap.

Just make sure, its Cali legal.  Otherwise you'll go down the same road I did.  It needs an EO.  You might get lucky and the ref doesn't look for it.  I have the Downey manual if you need it, its got some info.

fordh8r

Cool! I will look into it. I'm surprised that it even mattered at all as long as it functioned like it's supposed to and keeps the CEL out. :headscratch:

I thought the same way.

Nonetheless, thanks for the heads up! I will be sure to look closely for that. 8)

Well, after some good searching, I may be leaning towards keeping the Auto trans from my donor rig. Pricing is relativley similar going either route but the VSS issue remains the same between them. I checked out the JTR site and they have some real good info on there about that subject. Thanks, again for the heads up and for turning me onto them.  :beerchug:

Are you running an electric fan or the clutch fan? You also eliminated the DRAC too, right? I know you said you used the stock exhaust, does that include the manifolds too? Any pics of this stuff from your build?

Also, what 3rds are you running...4Cyl, V6? Is your T/case a 21 or 23 Spline?

Thanks!

4RunnerChevy

I am running electric fans, but the clutch fan fits fine.  I eliminated the DRAC but you can modify them for tire size, super easy, a simple jumper mod.  I am running 4 cyl thirds, with spools, and dont have a problem except for the occasional blown R&P haha (1 in four years).

If you place the motor right, the transfer case will bolt into its stock location.  No shaft mods.  I am running a 21, and one of Marlins first 4.7's, no problems. I run stock exhaust manifolds.

What exact pics are you looking for, gimme a list and I'll shoot and upload.

fordh8r

Good to know, thanks! I have 4cyl 3rds right now with a Detroit in the rear and a Soft locker in the front. Was thinking of going to 23 spline on both boxes for that added strength, just in case I should happen to 'slip' on the throttle a little. :gap: :disturbed:

Pics of the exhaust is what I was most interested in. But anything you think may be helpful I would be most appreciative!

I would go that route,  I'll take pics for you.  Gimme a few ................  then i'll post.  As far as the drac, get rid of it, cause the GM ECU takes a normal 2k signal.  If your running the Drac then you will need a 30T ring, been there if you need it.

fordh8r

Take yer time, no rush! As for the DRAC, I planned on ditching it anyway since I won't have an electronic speedo or cruise or anything else that needs a buffered signal. I'm a good ways away from all this happening so I just like to get the ball rolling in terms of research and parts acquisition before I tear apart a perfectly functional rig. I'm pretty sure that will minimize the down time. 8)

4RunnerChevy

I'll get the pics, there is not much down time cause its a pretty straight forward swap.

Even better! Seeing as it is my commute vehicle.  :disturbed:  I'm sure I will be at Full Tilt when the first bolts come out in hopes to get it going in possibly a weekend...but knowing me...I will end up doing a whole bunch of extra :pokinit: to make the whole conversion just THAT MUCH nicer! :willynilly:  :hammerhead:

I didn't polish the turd, but she's going on 5 years the way it sits now, I  took some skids off so you could see more. The dings on the crossover pipe have been remedied by bumpstop.  The exhaust is obviously pieced from Chevy and Napa.

fordh8r

Hahaha...no problem! I just wanted to gauge the fit of things all together so I can see how it all works as assembled. :yesnod:

4RunnerChevy

No explanation needed, just messing around

fordh8r

Hahahaha...no worries, Bro! I do appreciate all the help.

Kinda, they are just spring stop, no oil or Nitrogen.  Its around a 400 lb spring.  I was mainly just messing around at work.  Still need to finish the mounting clamp and try and break it on a trail.

81yotalove

lol try and break it on a trail.

I dont think the daystar stinger bumps have oil or nitrogen either. they have different option of poly inserts to control how firm they are. the one you made looks nice though. its pretty cool that you have the resources and time to make one off stuff for your truck. props to you, its really cool.

If it work better than my rubber, i'll have to make another.  I might try different tips, instead of UHMW, maybe rubber or urethane.

Pics look great! Finally had a chance to see them today.   I will have to run my exhaust on the left side since I still have my stock fuel tank but I don't think that will be too difficult to make happen.

I have seen people modify the crossover pipe to the otherside, but if your going smog, you will have to do that after the Cat.

The peeps at Bobby Longs shop rocks. Any way.  New aluminum cooling & fan , winch, dual batt's, longs, all on the winter dinner table.  All ordered or received, fab under way.

4RunnerChevy

Spindle damage from last Birf failure.  Just another glitch in the install plan.  Now gotta wait for a bushing.
