I guess I'm just jealous that you getting some shop time!  I tinkered a little last weekend and finished building my fuel cell but I REALLY need to burn some hours and get some smoke curls flowing!  It's getting to be perfect wheeling weather with melting snow and warm weather plus the yard projects are screaming to get underway....and my crawler sits silent....... :-(

ok i finally got a bunch of pics for you guys.  I uploaded them all to photobucket cuz its a pain in the ass to resize them all for this site.   the three link is almost completely setup.  I got more done tonight aside from the pics i have now.  i am working on the panhard bracket at the axle end right now and hopefully it will almost be done tomorrow.  the pics of the suspension flexed was just a temporary setup of the panhard so i could see how everything works.

I ended up finding a pretty good solution to the dredded 80 series LC steering.  i removed both lower steering arms and modified them.  the pass side arm is originally one big arm that goes to the front of the knuckle for the drag link to attach to, and to the rear of the knuckle for the tie rod to attach to.   i cut the rear half off because my tie rod is no longer in the rear of the axle..... so that was easy.   then i took the driver side arm (which normally faces the rear to connect to the tie rod) and i cut it off so i could weld it on the front.   It actually worked out really well.  i tacked it all in place and made a 1/4" plate gusset to run all the way up the arm.  Then i warmed it all up with the torch and burned it in.  I took both arms to work and stuck em in the mill and drilled out the tapered TRE holes to a 3/4" straight through hole so i can run 3/4"x 3/4" hiems instead of TRE's.  So that solves moving the tie rod to the front of the axle.  Now i am going to build a complete custom upper steering arm for each side that will bolt on via the two upper knuckle bolts and the ABS hole.  This will give me a double sheer steering setup which i think will be plenty strong!  Also i have decided to go with full hydro steering using a single ended ram, so i dont have to worry about drag link and panhard interference.

Here is a link to my photobucket folder   http://s784.photobucket.com/albums/yy127/BoostedRunner87/3%20link%20build%20for%20the%20BoostedRunner/#

No problem, you're putting some hard work into that runner and in shows

I really want to see how you like those 80 series axles and how they hold up to the 4dees. The front looks pretty beef except for the r&p and the rear should hold up well also. I've been keeping my eye out to see if a deal on a front comes up, but no luck yet.

This may be a really dumb question...

Looks like the bolt pattern is symmetrical. Why couldn't you just turn the driver's side steering arm 180*?

Looks killer!

i think i will like them.  The birfields are way bigger and since the ring and pinion is a high pinion, it is also stronger than a standard 8".   I know i wont have any problems with the rear axle... Its stright beef!  way bigger than a mini truck rear axle

thats a valid question!  It would have been nice to be able to do that.  The pattern is symetrical.  The problem is that the steering arm is built to come off the knuckle at an angle in order to get the proper Ackerman angle for the stearing.  So when you flip the arm 180 degrees, then it hits the brake rotor because it is now pointing the wrong direction.  also that arm isnt quite as tall as the passenger side one and it is also longer!  So i had to cut it, shorten it, and point it up at a steeper angle in orderto match the pass side.

Looking good man you sure know what you doing keep up the good work. Just got my new wheels on my 4runner havent been working on it to much trying to get my boosted civic fixed i just put a hondata s300 in it need to tune it know, then i can start working on my 4runner again.

got some more pics for ya guys.  last night I notched the frame on the passenger side so i could mount the panhard up higher on the axle.  It now sits at a negative angle to the tie rod at ride height.  With it setup that way, at full droop the panhard only pulls the axle over towards the driver side 5/8".  I'm really happy with that.  my panhard bracket on the axle is pretty tall and i have alot of plate gusseting to do on that side so the panhard is nice and sturdy.  the frame bracket for the panhard turned out good and i also have a nice cover plate for it with a couple speedholes (it will look like the cover plate on the diff end of the upper link).  This weekend i plan on getting everything burned in solid and gusseted up.  Then i will bend my shock hoops and get the shocks installed.

Sounds like it will be fairly strong. If you need another set of stock knuckles and arms by chance, let me know.

Thanks dude! I'm pretty motivated right now, gonna work on it all weekend.  that will be a nice plasma to have!  i have been using the plasma at work alot lately to cut all my brackets.  We actually have a 6'x6' cnc plasma table at work now.  i'm sure they wont let me use it to cut out sweet brackets though

yeah i love plasma compared to oxy/acetylene, much cleaner cut! I'm workin on mine all weekend as well, going to get the 63'' chevies switched over, daystar bushings, 18mm marlin shackle bolts, build frenched hangers, and weld rear johnny joint shackle mounts up  Then next weekend its moving the front axle 3'' further forward, brace up the frame and finish the steering box mount and relocate the shock hoops.

You go man!
i'm trying!  I got the 1 3/4" OD x 1/2" wall DOM for my front lower links today.  Gotta get one end tapped for the 1 1/4" jimmy joints.  Then I ill have to cope the other end and weld on my Currie Johnny Joints.  Once that is done, all my links, panhard bar, and tie rod will be done in the front!

1/2" wall = nice!  I'm running 3/8" wall lowers and it's amazing how much abuse they can live with.
