so it was suggested to me to bump the timing one tooth over, so i did that, it still runs sluggish(just like it did before ). i think im going to put it back to where it was, then see what happens. but it does start and seems to run pretty darn strong, so thats promising.
so now im waitiung for it to cool down before i take the valve cover off again.
i feel better now that i got it to start, and it was something stupid cause i was in a hurry and wanted to get it going  :hammer:

it appears my brakes are working now, yay!
did a compression test
cyl 1- 115
cyl 2- 115
cyl 3- 115
cyl 4- 125
guess thats what i get for a hundred dollars
so, i know the timing chain needs replacement, if the timing is off because of a bad chain, would that affect the compression?
also, im looking at timimng chain kits with steel guides, are these any good?
any constructive input appreciated
and...... discuss

I'm sorry to say, but those numbers are very low.  They are supposed to be around 170ish, with the minimum being around 140.   On the bright side they are all within 14 psi of each other.

Did you poor a small amount of oil into the cylinders to see if it would raise the compression?  that was one of my problems 3 engines ago. :gap: checked everything, terribly slugish esp up hill.  all my rings were shot, and my valve seals weren't very good either.

Keep at it. Other work is looking good.  :twocents:

things to fix
figure out whats wrong with my clutch, might have to drop the tranny, dont wanna because of the "b*std bolts" on top of the housing.
figure out why my breaks are soft, even after ive bled them (hope i just bled them wrong, i hate brakes)
currently working on cutting off the mickey moused trailer hitch that the previous owner crack head welded to the bumper mounts.

no more getting stuck on rocks with my lame trailer hitch

a lil clean up and ill be good to go, i dunno how much of the original bumper monts are needed to mount a marlin rear bumper so ill keep all the original stuff for now.

ok, so most of the old hitch is gone, hope its enough to put in my new bumper, if not i am gonna have to borrow a torch. new bumper on friday, i hope, happy me.

Question:
i was messing with my clutch:
here is what its doing-when the clutch is disengaged, it makes a rattling sound, when you barely press in the clutch, it stops. i crawled under it and noticed that when its disengaged, the clutch cylinder does not rest against the clutch fork. doesnt that have to be resting against the fork to keep a lil pressure on the bearing/fork assembly, hence the reason for my noise? some one give me an idea here.

also, i have bled my brakes twice, and the still wont work unless i pump them. they worked before i re built the front axle, but one of the lines to the calipers was pinched off. now with out the pinched off line, i cant get them to work right, so i thought maybe leaky caliper, but i dont see fluid. try to bleed it again? give me a clue
thanks in advance guys

ROCKO

hey cody,
what is your timing set at?
you say it runs real sluggist correct?

mine ran the same way and i bumped up the timing from 5 degrees to 18 degrees and it ran like a champ.
when i took it to get smogged i would just put it back to 5 degrees and it would run like crap but pass smog then back to 18 degrees
JUST ANOTHER ROCK CRAWLER....
with a lot of good stuff

what speakers you gonna run ??
i have the zapco reds 6.5" speakers and components from the suby, and a memphis M class 12" that i bought from nate a while back.
im going to build a vented box to place over the amps (in the pic is where i am locating them) removable so i can put thje seats up, but when i have them down i will be able to cover them up and not worry about damaging them or putting stuff on top of them.
