the splines on the axles are different so the splines on the inside gear are different, just make sure you use the gear for the SFA not the IFS

put on her wheels today and drove around the block, need to rebleed the brakes, cause there isnt much in the way of them now, oops. so im gonna get some fluid and do that soon. still running gutless, and having trouble starting cold. compression check is next.

it appears my brakes are working now, yay!
did a compression test
cyl 1- 115
cyl 2- 115
cyl 3- 115
cyl 4- 125
guess thats what i get for a hundred dollars
so, i know the timing chain needs replacement, if the timing is off because of a bad chain, would that affect the compression?
also, im looking at timimng chain kits with steel guides, are these any good?
any constructive input appreciated
and...... discuss

YES it can lower compression. What you don't want to see on a compression test is one or two low and the others high.

so having them all low and about the same compression is a goos thing, and i need anew timing chain correct?

I've got my runner in the backyard with a blown hg.  :gap:  Probably needs a full rebuild, but at the very least a new hg and timing chain

ok, timing cover off, the one guide on the driver side looks like its about ready to go (which means i should probably take off the oil pan) and the cover had some gashes in it but it doesnt seem to bad. here are some pics, i need to get someone over here who knows what they are doing before i start putting it back together.

 :help:
ok, so everything seems good timing chain wise, it does not look like it jumped a tooth, the guides are a lil worn but not too bad. this is not good news as far as im concerned because i dont know why my engine is running as gutless as it is. this is my situation-

truck wont start right away when its cold :shudder:

as soon as you hit any sort of incline it bogs down, no power. :rivers:

other than that it seems to run fairly smooth, but when revs down to low idle it wants to die

all this screams timing, but am i wrong? is it possible that the chain tensioner is worn out and that would effect my timing? what other things would cause this? i have decent compression, so i should be able to go up a hill in at least third. seriously, like 10 degree hill and i have to put it in second. i just want some ideas while i have this thing all torn apart.
thanks in advance
