removing shock boots
« on: Apr 27, 2008, 04:34:35 PM »
do you guys leave them on or take them off?

the 14" bilstiens(5100's) i had never came with them, but the 12's(also 5100's) i have have them so i just assume i leave them on. Ive heard of the argument that the boot traps dirt inside and i'm sure the boot is meant to keep dirt out, but some come w/ boots and some dont so....

they are known to trap debris and mud inside and actually cause damage to the pistons, although most bilstiens are run upside down so that shouldnt matter.

i dont use them though

If you decide to run em be shure and color match em to your steering wheel cover, your seat covers, and your fuzzy dice.

I kept mine on for a while just to see, i left the fronts off and the rears on. after about 3 months I took the rears off and sure enough there was a ton of sand, mud and moisture trapped inside the boots. so I just cut them off. plus they look :stopit: anyway

The only thing I had a shock boot on was my shifters in my nissan.  That way my stuff wouldn't fall out the hole around the shifters!  I lost a can of Copenhagen that way.  It was a new can!   :rivers:

Nothing more than a collector of dirt inside, they are better off collecting dust on a shelve somewhere. If you put a bunch of shocks on they do look really cool in the Kohl's parking lot.
