Is that the IH version of the dana 300 mounted to that tranny. Those are supposed to be verry desirable cases.

IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

It has a T19 trans and Tcase is a Dana 300 "I think".

Not sure what the ratios are in the trans or tcase, but the axles have 3.73's and a limited slip in the rear.  :ha_ha:

I may still have a 4.10 limited slip carrier if you want it. :ha_ha: You can have it for shipping cost, but it prolly needs new clutches too. With the dana carrier split deal, you will need different carriers in order to go lower gears in the diffs. If I rember correctly the split was at 3.73 and down, to 4.10 and up, and another in there somewhere. Come to think of it you might be able to get thicker gears in order to use your exhisting carriers. :headscratch:
The dana 300 tcase was only offered in 79, in scouts, and I think there are some rare 80 models out there too. 80 was the last year wasnt it? Oh man my head hurts. :headscratch: Its been a long time since I messed with anything other than a toyota.

Don't take the tech I'm trying to share as fact, couse it has been way to long since I wrenched on a dana axled rig.  :inthedark:

Not too sure from the pics but it looks like the fill plug is very close to the shift rails.  If it is its a dana 300, if the fill plug is lower to the right of the shift rail its a dana 20 but it looks to be a 300 so your a lucky SOB. :)

OK here are the pics. I know the spider gears are busted in the rear and their are other issues but I will let Mark do the splainin when he gets back in (or maybe from outside, he's got his laptop out there with him.)

You should have a t-19 wide ratio with a 6.32:1 granny low.  There was a close ratio that had either 5.11 or the more typical 4.02:1 granny.  Chances are you have a wide ratio more common with IH.  But if you have a dana 300 hooked to it you have a one year only (1980) combo.  Nice find. :D

Well you know these were low dollar farm tractors and they needed to be strong and have low gears. From the looks of this one it spent a lot of time on the farm or in it.

I only hope the rest of it is in better shape than the axles are.

i know the front of the  6x6 concrete mixers i used to  drive  here  had a "truetrac"  type differential

and most Macks  have  a truetrac  type  differential

A good buddy wheels a cj7 with tru-tracs in his 44's and they are great for 90% of what we wheel around here.  On the rocks I have heard the tires chirping with only 2 or 3 on the ground.  They work, but you have to let them work....

I know, upwards of $300. I can buy a new 24 volt fork lift starter on Ebay for $249, but I don't want to go there just yet.

If you're talking about the Detroit Truetrac I ran one in the 85 and really liked the way it worked.  A little power braking went a long way.

and not that this won't see the dirt, it will certainly be no mall crawler but it's not going to be built for the wheeling the Mammoth does. In fact, it will probably be used to get the Mammoth to where we want to wheel locally rather than having to pull the LBC out for an overnighter.

Mark I beat the hell out of my old truetrack in my 3/4 ton chevy with a D44 and a healthy v8 and 36 TSL's...  never had a problem with it other than broken stub shafts.

i hooked him up with a buddy that knows hot to adapt toy hubs onto a dana 44  and 30 spline outers also

Ok, just ordered True Trac carriers and 4.27 Yukon gears. I guess I plan on running 33" MTR's, but still looking for a nice set of wheels that will go well with this old turd.

And if I don't find a starter soon I may just buy the 24 volt fork lift starter and figure out how to isolate the starter from the rest of the electrial system.

Besides 24 volt is better for my Ready welder. :thumbs:
