with a correct 3 or 4 link, there is no need for a panhard bar, but keep it simple for now with some leafs.

Well here is my idea I have been working on. Start with a Donaldson G070019 air cleaner assembly.
Then gather you some 3" silcone inter cooler tube connectors or simular hose and band clamps.
Then have your local muffler shop bend you some custom intake and snorkel pipes and put it all together.
You will need to find or fab some sort fo air ram/weather cap for the top of your snorkle tube to keep the rain out.

Cleaner housing check at any partstore that sells Donadlson filters they can order it for you out of the catalog.

OK guys tell me if you think this front suspenion idea will work. I will proberably not run the drivers side upper I just put it in there to see what it would look like. This would be set up with 12"  coil overs  up front and  in the rear I am not going to run over a 36's and I am planning to keep it as low as possible. looking for about 5" of up travel.  Drawing is with the front axle about 3.5" forward.  Give me your  :twocents:

is blue the panhard?
do u need a panhard with a 4 link, or will it bind with it in there?

Redbeard1

Yes the blue is the panhard.  I may decide to only do a 3 link up front for exhaust clearance the Thornley header takes up alot of space. I am going to lift the drive train and build a bell pan to mount all of the lowers to and the tranny/t-case. botom of the cross member will be 2-2.5 inches below the frame max not a full on flat belly but at least a slick belly with the sliders boat sided. I am pretty sure on the rear suspension but may lower the frame end of the upper links. On the front I will prober ably only run a 3 link deleting the driver side upper link that I have drawn. 7" vertical separation on the axle end of both front and rear links frame end on the front would be 5" and the rear would be around 6".  I want to keep the anti-squat so that it is pretty neutral and doesn't raise or lower much on acceleration (if any thing I would rather the front raise and the rear to lower to transfer the weight to the rear for traction).  I want the roll center axis to be where it is stable for road use as I will be running this on the street and off road. I want it to be firm enough to handle curves well on the highway but soft enough to soak up the bumps well off road while still having decent flex.  I was planning this around 12" 2.0 dual rate coilovers (don't know what spring rates I should run as of yet) setting it up with 4-6 inches of up travel. I may use bushings on the frame ends of the links and .875" hemi joints on the axle ends or hemi joints on both ends. I am thinking 2" .375" wall DOM for the lowers, 1.75" .250" wall for the uppers and 1.25"-1.5" .250" wall for the panhard bars. I am also planning on 4" 2.0 air bumps on all corners. I think this will work but I may have some design flaws.  What do you guys think that have more experinece on this than me? I have only done 3 link setups and mone of them were on a Toyota platform nor on my truck. 1 Jeep (rear uper wishbone lower straight links), 1 old school Ford Bronco (front basicly a radious arm with rod ends and a panhard) and 93 Chevy (parallel set up like a 94-2002 dodge).

Got back to the States on Monday been hella busy. Got to work on Pete today, did a rear brake job, rear wheel bearings/ seals, replaced the master cylinder with a 1" bore 1992 FJ80 with a 1991 Celica resivour and changed the damaged rear 3rd member with another 4.11 unit I had damn crush sleeves.  Stripped the carpet out and removed the evil tar from the floor board I love air chizels.  All the brakes blead out good high firm pedal now. Tomorrow I'll replace all the ujoints, change all the fluids, fix the horn and head to get it inspected and have the tires mounted on my soft 8s. I am waiting for the front v6 calipers, fj vented rotors, knuckle studs, front axle service kit, wheel bearings and my new seats. I'll get some pics up later on but most of it is just normal repairs.

How did you get your axles out of the drum/bearing assembly? Do you have a press? It took us a long time to get them out in a full shop. Finally had to make a tool to pull them with the press. But always looking for an easy way esp on the trail.

You'll never take me alive

Redbeard1

used my press and a couple of 2"x8" under the backing plates.  I have also done it by pulling the axles and brake assembly out removing the snap ring and put the assembly back in and grab the axle flange with a slide hammer and give it a few hits and it comes right out.

I like the slide hammer in the axle housing idea.  I worked in a Toyota shop for years and never saw anyone do it that way.

P.S.  I like the axle housing tool you made for your press.  We had one just like it at my dealership but the flange was all bent to hell.

Yeah the slide hammer is a throw back to ford 9" axles that is about the only way I have found to get them out that dosent tearany thing up.

remove the snap ring, hold the backing plate and slam! the shaft down on concrete or on a 2x4. Give it about 3 whacks and it comes right off.
