The box tubing is .188" wall 2"x3" and the plate is .135" it feels pretty stout. I did some skunk works testing on a section of the plate with a 10# sledge at full swing between two blocks and it held up pretty good yeah it bent but it had no backing just flat plate. All the bracing on the bumper it should hold up nicely. Hell the beer can thin stock bumper held up to pushing down 4-6" dia. trees last time I had the truck out with out bending.

8 pages of build and not a single rock crawled yet!! That's how I roll.

How the hell you been Todd? I haven't been on here much lately been trashing around on my local club board. Hope all is well up there. You wouldn't happen to have the stock bolts too would you?

I have been ok. I have moved so I am separated from my parts, but I had a few hooks w/ stock bolts laying around. I am living in the "ghetto" part of town right now because it is what I can afford. $300 a month and the cops are around almost nightly. I will check my parts collection and get back to you.

Well be safe there Todd... Take your time it is not any thing I have to have just want another one to protect my other spring hanger.

Got my trans mount finished up today took a little longer than I wanted it to but it is done. Having the engine and the trans on bushing mounts has the drive train as solid as a judge now.

Explain to me the bushings and tubes you used, please. I am planning on building something very similar for my truck. Currently I am rocking duals with the stock crossmember just to get the truck moving.

Redbeard1

The tubes are 1" pipe couplings/unions with the threads full of jb-weld and smoothed down and the bushings are stock Toyota rear leaf spring bushings cut to fit the length of the sleeve. I know it is getho but it works. If I had some tube and a lathe I would have made some tubes the right way. I decided on the Toyota bushings because I can easily replace them.

I just found out today that my neighbor Dean a really great guy that has become a close friend sense I moved back to Texas was given 4 months to live yesterday... he has been fighting pancreatic cancer for close to 2 years now.   His cancer had gone in to remission about 6 months ago.. After he had a MRI on his check up yesterday they found it has spread into his stomach and intestines and is growing fast. Please keep the Dean and the Handcock family in your prayers.

Today turned out to be a productive day. Got up at 06:30 this morning and headed to the local parts house (Napa) and picked up my shocks.  Napa part number RR94254 they are replacement shocks for a 03 4x4 f250 superduty and have dead on the mark 13" of travel. Haven't driven the truck yet but they should do OK for a trail only rig. For the price you cant beat them with the company discount they were 20 bucks each.

Got them home and went to work getting the fronts mounted wound up just cutting the top off of the factory shock tower and making a 6" extension for it out of plate. I had to remove the dust sheilds from the front shocks in order for them to clear every thing. Took a pipe cutter to them and made quick work of it. I hate the tube hoops all the sheet metal you have to cut out plus you have a weak spot where they weld to the frame. Then again I may end up going to them if my tower extensions don't work out. all said and done i have about 4 inches of up travel on the shocks. I am gonna set my bump stops at 2.5-3" so I don't kill my shocks.

On the rear I mounted them in the traditional  " /\ " pattern. On the axle I used some scrap from my bumper build that was the perfect shape for a shock mount. They just needed holes drilled in them and a once over with a grinder.  I wound up having to move them in further on the axle than I wanted because the turn down on my exhaust was in the way. On the top I used small section of "I" beam that was just the correct inside width between the ears for the shocks to slide into. Just cut off an inch of it and drilled the mounting holes and welded it to the bottom of my flat bed. Could not mount them to the cross tube in the frame as most do  because the rear axle is pushed back 6".

About the time I got done with that the Man in the Brown Truck showed up with a package for me from Wyoming. Thanks a bunch Todd the truck looks better with 2 tow hooks on it now. I really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to get that out to me.

Went over the whole truck and tightened up all the loose stuff. Set the toe on the steering got the steering wheel centered. Filled the trans, crawl box and tcase with fluid. Checked and topped off the power steering. checked the differentials. Jacked the truck back up and put stands under it all the way around and fired it up. Hasn't run in 9 months and with nothing but a jump start it busted off first turn of the key. Man I love Toyota's. Let it warm up for about 20 minutes and climbed in it and kicked it in gear. Ran it through every gear it has checked to see if the Sky offroad park brake held and it does in 2wd low. Tomorrow before work I'll take it around the block long enough to break in the differentials and run to VatoZone and exchange my totally dead battery and it should be ready for our local club run next month.

Well I took Pete on a drive yesterday about 5 miles or so did great. no vibration from either drive shaft. The new trans mount works good dumped the clutch on the pavement and no movement from the trans at all.  Have some clearance problems up front but nothing a bfh and the sawzall won't fix.  It looks like I need about 1.5 inches of lift in the front so I'll have to adress that when I redo the front springs.
Truck is wicked slow in double low climbed the rocks in the parking lot next door at idle.

Man I am jealous! My truck weighed right at 4500 lbs before I tore it apart again. I am betting it will weigh more when I am done :(

Redbeard1

Still weighs more than I was shooting for but I'll have to live with it I guess.

I took Pete out to our local clubs BBQ (CTOR Central Texas Off Road) for some wheeling last weekend. All I have to say about how Pete did is POINT AND SHOOT!  Absolutely awesome I found nothing that Pete backed down from. Here are some pics.

Went to Hidden falls this past weekend with our local off road club had a blast.

On another note I got tired of the glare off my hood while wheeling so I decided my stripes had to go back on...
