:shake:  How many rocks do you people have on your roads. It's not like Florida is rockless, we do not have a huge problem with flying rocks.

We get a lot of rocks (hell, the entire state is rock!) and sand. Especially this time of year, when it rains all the sand and rocks from the washes end up in the low spots in the road. There are very few bridges here, the roads just go through the washes. Every year there are people who try to cross the flooded wash and get stuck, either from the water killing the engine or the car getting stuck in all the sand that has washed over the road.

I used to run removeable flaps on my mini. They were easy to throw on and pull off and it kept me driving down the road and not sitting on the side.
If you don't like the look of flaps, you could always get some of the clear plexi ones that the high dollar mommy/daddy trucks with double digit lifts run.  :gap:

BTW, it drives me nuts in a rain storm when I am a "safe" distance back and my windshield is still getting plastered by a kid with boggers hanging way out and I can't see where I'm going.

Be careful with those. I had a buddy get 2, the first was right around a hundo, the second was $250. The cop told him they get more and more with each you get.

Man, I can't bring myself to drive without my seatbelt!  It's always those "I'm just going around the corner to snag a twinkee" runs when some drunk asshat tries to negotiate a tight corner at 100mph, hitting you and causing you to roll.

or you go driving down the road for a quick twinkie run and your darn tire falls off!  The insurance guy gave me cutos on my driving.  he said if i didnt react as quick as i did when it fishtailed, i would have flipped at 50mph.  now that would have sucked if i wasnt wearing my seatbelt.  but always obey road signs dude.

I feel nekkid driving without a seatbelt, it's just an automatic response to put it on when I get in.

My first hard lesson in seatbelt usage came when my oldest son was just two years old (30+ years ago).  He was unbelted in the back seat of our Dodge van (this was long before child seat laws or common use of them) -- a deer jumped in front of us and I hit the brakes.  He tumbled off the seat and hit the back of the driver's seat (or the seat pedestal).  A day later he was still fussy so we took him to the doctor.

As long as I live, I will never forget looking at the x-ray of his tiny broken collarbone.  And words can't explain how badly I felt.

Happy to say he healed up just fine, and seatbelt usage has been automatic for everyone in our family since then.

Asshat?  :spit: :rofl2: Alright, in all seriousness, I always wear my seatbelt. There are drunks all over the place where I live. I have even had a few friends die from drunk driving. It is not a good idea to drive without seatbelts, regardless if you are moving 100 feet, or 100 miles.

I don't know why everyone gets all bent about getting a ticket for violating the law even if you plan on continuing to violate it. It's his job, what some people don't understand is that they require mudflaps for a reason, and it's not so they can pull you over and write you a citation. The next time that big rig you are passing spits up a rock and cracks your windshield because he was missing a mudflap then maybe you'll understand.

I'm having a hard time understanding the attitude of the OP.  Seems the majority of people here feel that it's a reasonable law - once again, it seems to be mostly level-headed adults on this forum, which isn't always typical on the internet.  If the OP wants to drive around with a busted windshield (which the CHP will also happily ticket you for, by the way), that's more or less his choice, but that doesn't mean it's OK to break other people's windshields.  Simple enough.

Yeah - nothing but sore feet, two of the most painful (and loudest) lectures in recorded history, and six months of life as a lowly pedestrian.  Guess I won't be doing THAT again..

FWIW, I have no memory of the broken collarbone.  Uh, I mean, the pain, the unbearable pain!  Where's my lawyer...?

Speaking of putting you in a home, we went to the aircraft museum in McMinnville today (got a few pics of the Spruce Goose, SR-71, etc.) and I successfully located your mom's and her folks' old houses.  So we went to Sheridan and Willamina to see what we could see.  Which was...not much.

Evergreen's museum in Mac has long been on my list of things to see.  Maybe now that your Mom is retired...  As to Sheridan & Willamina, well....   it's been a very long time since I cruised through, but that's not surprising to hear.   :gap:

It happens chris.  Few months back I was in the middle lane, truck pulling a utility trailer a little ways ahead in the right lane.  I had the pleasure of seeing a 3/4" river rock fall from his trailer, take a nice bounce ............................. WHACK!  First thought was "that's gonna leave a mark", then I look up and there's a 1.5" round bullseye on the top of my windshield :shake:

just one of them laws we all have to deal with,  I have been writted every kind of fix it ticket imagineable,  Here is one to think about, in the dmv handbook it says (driving is a privilage not a right)  but dont we live in a free country?  shouldnt we all have the right to drive?   I just served time in jail for protecting myself,  go figure, free country huh!

86bobbedtoy

here are a few chps in butte county who have written me the same ticket, Garcia,Vasquez,Rodriguez    is it just me or do they have something in common?     Chris all Im saying is get the mudflaps and laugh at the piggies, they just want to get a rise out of you and hay it worked quite well,   if you want some ideas on removeable mudflaps Im sure alot of us will be more than happy to help.

Your first question is debatable, but to answer your second question, no.  Rights are irrevocable; privileges can be revoked.  If someone cannot prove that they are mature enough, responsible enough, skilled enough, or physically able to drive, they should not be allowed to drive.  If they cannot or will not drive in a manner that presents minimal risk and danger to others, they should not be allowed to drive.  If they cannot or will not make a reasonable effort to respect and accomodate other road users, then no, they do not get the privilege of driving on public roads.

Well, they are all CHP officers, for one thing.  It is considerably more likely that they are writing you tickets because you continue to openly violate the law than because they are hispanic.  I suspect you are not the only white guy in Butte County getting tickets.  If you give them any reason to suspect you are a racist, you will get some extra "special attention" from law enforcement.  But that is a whole 'nuther discussion...
