Alright, back on track.  I got money, I got the drive to fix it.  This weekend im pulling my motor and trany.  Ill take pics and post an update later.  Ive decided to buy a remanufactured 22r, and rebuild the trany.  already got the new clutch (Marlin 1600).

Things i have found out:
My windshield leaks and i need to replace the seal.
My gas millage sucks and i need to get this truck fixed ASAP.
$800 trucks are priced at that amount for a reason.
In less than a month :crossed:, ill have a like new running truck.

One bonus to an $800 truck is when you fix it up, you don't have to re-do things for a while because you're replacing old stuff with new.  Just it takes some cash and a lot of time.

Caboose

true that.  i prob wont have to fix the motor trany or replace the clutch (from what ive heard) for the next 5-10 years.  hopefully longer even.  only time will tell if i made the right decision.  What do you guys think of herculiner?  i want to do an over the rail job on my bed.

I know, i promise to post pics later.  Just finished the swap tonight.  IT RUNS! now comes the hard part, California emissions.  :shocking: :yikes: I plan to take it to a smog test/repair center in Clovis so they can get it legal and i dont have to worry about getting a gross polluter tag on my truck.  im going to pismo next week, would like to drive this there (not jumping it on the dunes, no worries) for its first trip.  we will see how it goes.  all depends on this week.

Edit: I think the truck got its name tonight, Frankin Truck.  The more i decide to fix on it, the more i realize how pieced together the thing is.  Just realized tonight i have a stock shackle and a lifted shackle.  Scary thing is, my truck is level with an 2" shackle on one side.  Oh, did i mention, it has no bushings? :shocking:

Ok, sorry it took me so long to post pics, but here they are.

We learned you cant try to pull the whole drive train at once.

The Old one, now we just have to get...

And the L52...

And the shiny hot tanked case.

Figured out a way to not make my flywheel turn while i was installing the clutch...

And it worked!

Had to keep my staff energized.

And wired...

This year has WAY too many vacuum lines...

But we eventually figured it out.

hope you guys like them, im more focused on getting the thing done, i had to tell my buddies to remind me to stop and take pics of the thing.  it aint much fun with just a beginning and end.  Now i just have a few more things i need for smog and then it should be on the road.

Yep, thats him.  he just left my house actually, we are tying to fix my alt.  just so you guys dont do what i did.  in the excitement of your truck running for the first time and when you want to drive it out of your side yard and into your drive way, make sure your wire harness to your alt is clear from your steering column.  i ripped wired out left and right now my bat wont charge and i cant figure out why.  I'm just not seeing a wire, or a wire broke inside, or my alt is fried.  cant figure it out.  anyway, TURBO is coming back over to my house tomorrow and we are going to try to fix the thing so i can tune the carb, then get a new exhaust, then smog it, then im good to go!

On a good note, i don't have to take my truck to a test only station, so i can take it to my buddy's dad's shop to get it smoged!

Update:

Got the charging system fixed, now i can leave it idling and not worry about it.  Fixed the rough idle, loose connection going to the carb.  Now i just have to tune it, finish putting all the smog crap on, new cat, and take it to get smoged. :sheerterror:

It was an interesting day, i didn't sleep because i was so anxious for the next day.  I went to muffler outpost in the morning, put all new exhaust in, went to the smog place a few shops down and failed the pretest.  The guy told me to go drive it for 20 miles and bring it back.  I did and it passed with flying colors!  Went to DMV to get it registered, DMV tells me that because the vehicle was towed off the road while on non-op, it voids the non-op and i now owe back registration fees.  Long story short, $512 later and lots of arguing and trying to find missing paperwork the truck is registered to me and legally on the road.  As a congratulations, my parents got me some tires.  Now its just ironing out the problems left, now it wont idle. lol and my float got stuck literally 15min after smog.  I think i might need to rebuild my carb now. lol.  Its just one thing after another...

On a positive note, my truck decided not to have carb issues and it ran like a champ up to shaver.  Now the moment everyone waits for... Pictures!!!  Sorry, left my camera at home, no pics at shaver.

All in all im pleased with the results, and when she feels like it, the truck runs like a champ.
