Now the fun part... prep, wrap, and loom

Im always taking pics so there are none of me in my own thread...

Engine Harness is all done...

Mounted the computer... Thanks goes out to Crash on Pirate4x4 for disclosing this awesome mounting location.

Then as the night went on we all started to go crazy… one by one... we began to see wires as the enemy and we were losing the war...

We won the battle of the cab but the war was far from over...

Then we began to get too tired to fight...

Daybreak came and my reinforcement left to leave me to tackle the broken switch column...

I got a switch column from a doner 83 truck (Thanks Motermouth559) but wanted to keep my factory 81 look as the shift levers were diferent on an 83 truck.  So I took every switch off the back of the 83. (the plug was also different in 83)

I also realized that the 83 shift lever for left/righ turn and high/lo beams was longer on the 83, so I had to remove the front plate on the 83 to the 81 turn signal plate.  I needed a 2nd person to help so I they could push it out while I used two pliers to push in the tabs.  Not having two people, I used a size 10 socket instead of two pliers and pushed really really hard...

Success!  Now I put the interior back together and get her ready to drive.

A finished look at the engine...

Waited to drive it till later that night when TURBO could be there.  And there was trouble in paradise.

5 engine codes which we ended up being able to clear relatively easily...

Have you checked the TPS ground? is it getting power? Have you followed the proper TPS adjustment procedure?

TPS ground? The E2 wire back to the computer? Yes.  I reset my computer and it throws a code 11 even before i start my truck, its a constant code...  right now its the only thing between me and getting it registered and ive tried everything i can try.   My FSM doesn't give any trouble shooting tips for Code 11 or 13.

Also forgot to mention that when I'm driving my check engine light will begin to flicker on and off if i get the RPMs above 3.5k and my truck will stutter.  IDK if that has anything to do with the TPS.  I unplugged the knock sensor and no change.

Can someone else with a 22R-E unplug their TPS and see if code 11 is immediately when the key is switched to the ON position and without starting the engine?

I looked at a couple of our 2nd gen computers we have here and they are diff.  Not sure if there is truly a diff between the 2 but a automatic computer would be looking for certain steps to happen before it can clear itself.  Those early autos were not electronic but they are still linked to the computer.  I can send you a manual computer to test with  if rockos test doesnt show same symptoms.  When we talked on the phone I didnt know you had a auto computer or I would suggested you swap that 1st.   If ya want I will send one of my manual comps to ya and we can see what happens from there.  Let me know so I can get this package out to ya.

Ok I found this site with a pdf version of the OBDI codes for Toyota and well an 11 code is deff not there.  However 41 is the code for a faulty tps sensor.  I cant see why it kick an 11 code and not the 41 unless the computer is utterly confused. here is a link to the site.

Caboose

If you have a computer for my year motor that would be helpful.  But your OBDI Codes are different than mine.  Here is a clip from my FSM.

Got off work late and didn't get a chance to work on my truck.  thank you all for your help so far.

Disconnected the TPS, threw codes 7 and 11.  With the TPS disconnected, still stuttered around 3.5-4.5k, already tried the knock sensor... Time for work, will update after i get some more time to work on it.

Code 11--- Switch Signal - neutral start switch ON (22RE) or IDL point in throttle position sensor is OFF during diagnostic check
after reading this and doing a little research I think you should trick the computer to think the tps is on.  I am feeling pretty sick right now and I need to crash for a few mins but ill look on the wiring diagram to see what needs to be done.  Also was there ac on this engine before you got it ? If so find what terminal the switch is on the ecu and make sure its not hooked up to something.

I take it you got my package ?   You must have something hooked up wrong or poss a wire thats grounding out.  Hard to say.

BigMike

What are you doing Caboose? Why don't you just fix the problem and move on to the next segment of the build. That is what I would do.
