its not permenant, lol. its for driving around town until i have time or an idea to build a strong one.  this IS my daily driver after all!

the 3/8s extension and bread/grease seemed like a really good idea until i tried it and neither end of the extension fits into the pilot bearing hole. what am i doing wrong?

i took apart the rocker arm assembly on my head today to investigate a worsening noise coming from one of my valves.  i bought the head thats currently on my engine from some guy for 150$, the 4th cylinder intake valve was bent. i didnt find out until i had it installed and running. so i kind of just lived with it and the valve wore a groove in the valve guide i can only assume.  the spark plug would get dirty, so it was obvious some oil was running down the valve.  i was planning on getting a badass head and rebuilding the whole bottom end eventually so i just said fukk it.  recently it started clacking really loud......the valve guide was broken in half right at the spring seat, so the oil seal and top inch or so of the valve guide were just slapping around as the engine ran.  i removed the broken parts and put it back together just so i can drive to work and :pokinit:.  the valve is still bent and the guide is still broken, but only the top part of the valve guide is broken off so it still works, it just leaks a little tiny bit of oil into the cylinder.
in the next week or two i will be buying a full rebuild kit and a ported head with bigger valves and a bigger cam.  i cant wait!  i hope that valve doesnt break or something before then :crossed:

actually, i was going to go with the EB high output racing head with dual.  its ported with bigger valves (i will be adding dual valve springs) and doesnt pass smog :disturbed:
and i was gonna go with an LCE cam, either stage 2 or 3 not sure which one yet.  i have a carburetor though, so an EFI cam would be a bad choise.  i already have everything upgraded for the outside of my engine......carb, ignition, exhaust, only other external i need is a dual plane intake manifold.
im not 100% sure what im gonna do with teh bottom end yet, it all depends on how much its worn out.  im hoping to reuse my crank and rods, i will replace the pistons i know that.  im hoping to end with a compression of atleast 12.0:1.  hopefully 12.5:1.  i have recently replaced my oil and water pump and timing set, so i dont need to screw with those.  hopefully i dont get raped by the machine shop!

i know thats really what im hoping for. also im hoping to be able to slap my A/C back on the engine without any drawbacks.  with my tired old engine and the A/C on, it would bog down so much it was a pain in the ass to drive. so i took it off and stored it in a box for the time being.  my biggest trouble is SAVING THE MONEY FOR THIS!!!!

that valve let go on the freeway on my way to work today at 6am....all the sudden my truck felt like i was driving up a big hill and was just bogging out, and my oil pressure was where it should be at an idle, so i pulled off the freeway and the truck died and i started it up again and it sounded like someone was hitting the engine with a hammer.  sounded like the valve or part of it was slapping around inside of the cylinder.. anyways im about to go take it apart and investigate and then order new parts! woo hoo! if theres any carnage ill try and get pics

my mechanic told me it has 2-3 bad valves and it was just all around better to replace it, so i did with an EB head.

im leaning more towards getting a totally new head thats ported and polished with big valves and ready to drop right on my engine so i dont even have to think about it.  ive dicked around with this engine so many times, im trying to make this the last time i ever have to open it up.  ive learned greatly from my mistakes.  the head i have is actually in great shape, its just that one valve that had the problem.  somehow one of the valves got freakin' bent.  im thinking of replacing the valve and valve guide and trying to sell it, because its practically brand new.  the casting was perfectly clean when i got it and all the valves and springs and everything are brand new. i bought the head off some guy for 150$, he told me he was gonna put it on his motor and he never finished the project.  also i still have my stock head sitting in my back yard thats in great shape.  im gonna order a offroad high output head from engnbldr and an LCE cam, ive already got it all planned out.  PLUS..............i dont have to smog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hence the weber 38 and ported and polished head with big valves :disturbed: and MSD ignition
