ok so heres the springs on the truck.  i really need to take some action shots!

heres the bracket i made out of the scrap steel i had. all of the oil everywhere is from a crack in my timing cover. what a pain in the freakin' ass

heres the $20 130amp alternator (with a brand new regulator) all bolted in with the adjusting bracket made from my stock one

this is my next project........replacing the timing cover

freshening up the wiring harness. i untaped it all and pulled out the wires that got cooked when my toyota alternator shorted out and replaced them as necessary. while i was in the harness, i pulled out all the wires that were just sitting there disconnected on both ends. a lot of stuff has been eliminated off this truck since i got it.

heres a piece of the better dash im installing.  i had to cut out the stock heater control stuff on the wood grain plastic piece so mine would fit in.  lots of dremeling!

i didnt take any pictures tonight because i got distracted. i got a lot further than the pics show... all the wiring is done and good to go except for pinning the harness in place in the engine bay.  im trying to get everything to work on the dash...not fun at all :smack:
and yes, everything electrical works.

damn you really tore that whole harness apart!  good job though, glad to hear all of it still works!
yeah i took a couple nights after work with a buddy and fixed all of the malfunctioning electrical stuff inside my rig. dash lights, heater control lights, deck lamp, tail lights... etc. i had alot of stupid crap to take care of. its really nice when its done though!  i can actually see all the gauges on my dash at night now!

hell my timing cover cracked in the same spot     break cleen and J-B weld  sealed good to go   oh and next time remove bolt before prying to remove head

82 HiLux

i jb welded it but it didnt work, you can see where it cracked thru the jb weld in that picture.  the crack isnt from prying on the head with that bolt still in, because i have always known the bolt is there, and i wouldnt try and take the head off with any bolts attaching it. its either from tightening the bolt down at some point with oil in the bottom of the hole, or some how using the wrong bolt that was a little bit too long. i dont really understand how oil runs past the bolt and out of the crack, but it sure makes a a mess

im not sure if it will work, they changed the engines a little bit in 85 for EFI, but the timing cover may or may not have changed. i dont know......ill have to research it a bit

oh bummer.... cause I know the 85 22R water pump won't work on a 87 22RE, thought it was worth a shot to ask.

and no problem man.

my tires are FINALLY almost worn out! they measure 31.5 inches...how embarassing.   next tires will be goodyear m/t 37x12.5x15 with new steel rims with a bunch of offset.  before i get those i have to move my front axle forward even more than i already have. im thinking about 2.5" more forward, because the tires i have now rub the firewall. also im gonna tub it where they rub.  i need to find a new job so i can start fixing some expensive problems. the company i was working took a :pokinit: and there is never any work anymore.

ford 150 4x4 springs work extremely well on the back of a toyota. i cant believe how perfect they are for my truck!
oh yeah i had my truck on a scale the other day, and it weighs just a tad over 3000lbs. i was surprised at that

i had my knuckles apart the other day to replace my knuckle bearings, and i was cleaning my birfields and repacking them when i noticed a mark on the outside of the birfield.  it had been rubbing on the inside of the knuckle housing inside the axle.  my knuckle bearings were extremely worn out, would this make the birfield hit the housing? or is it because of my front locker? i think its a mix of the 2. either way it doesnt matter, they are just stockers, and it didnt hurt anything. heres a pic.  im just curious as to what makes this happen so i can prevent it in the future! thanks for the help

I would say it is due to the bearings but could be a bent axle from you jumping it?

my housing had marks in it... and i had very bad trunion bearings...

82 HiLux

im thinking its mostly from my bad bearings and front locker putting a ton of stress on it. also, the brass spindle bushings in my axle are really old, i dunno how good of shape they are in.
i dont think my axle is bent, the axle shafts still slide in like butter and theres no cracks or stress marks or broken welds anywehre

heres how my engine bay looks after i removed all the useless wiring. now its time to replace my timing cover to fix the oil leak, and then clean the engine and engine bay really really good and get that nice new engine lookin purdy again. also, im going to make splash guards to go around the engine bay to keep a majority of mud and water out. i will also weld sheetmetal up over where the shock hoops poke through the fenders.

i tossed my SHITTY beat up old battery for this low maintainence one with side terminals. its used though.. :lipsrsealed:  better than what i had. eventually there will be a nice optima hidden somewhere

im getting my ARB locker back today that i f'ed up.  going to set me back $360 OUCH.

i made a new transfercase mount for my MC07-R10 out of some scrap steel i had and some leaf spring ends.
i made it lift my tranny about 3/4" or 1", so i need to play with my shifters again. im thinking hard about cutting out my transmission tunnel and building a new one thats lower.
i also shimmed my square front driveline....no more rattles!

im going camping and wheeling this weekend at the local OHV park. ill try to get some action shots!

i got really tired of the last foot of my bed just hanging there not supported by anything, so i fixed it.

i had extra lift blocks, because when i bobbed my frame a long time ago i lost the rear most body mount. also when i bobbed my bed i had no body mount in the very back of the bed.
i saved the 11" chunk of my bed that i cut out last year, and it still had the body mounts on the crossbrace that runs sideways under the bed.  so i drilled out the spot welds and tore it off and stuck that on the back of my bed.  then i made some frame to body mounts with some scrap steel. i call it..........junkyard engineering!  it totally solved the problem of my tailgate almost ripping off and the back of my bed shaking and moving around when i drive.

this hilux emblem was good for about 27 horsepower.

heres the transfercase mount i made.  i just came up with the most simple design i could with what i had. JUNKYARD ENGINEERING. the part welded to the budbuilt crossmember is LEAF SPRING ends with the bushings pressed in. oh yeah.

my truck is crying for 37s or 38s!!!!!!

where i welded that bed brace on, the welds conviently came out right on my bed bob seam.

ive been driving on a welded 4.10 for a while now, i just took it out and ALL the welds are broken HAHA. it still kept the spider gears from turning, but nevertheless it blew apart all the bigass welds i put in. i guess thats why people heat up the carrier in an oven and then stick weld the side gears to the carrier housing.

on my list of things to do is make a traction bar. my rear double cardan driveline angle is almost perfect.

pinion flange angle

tubing angle

pinion flange angle sits 3 degrees under the driveline angle. when i build a traction bar and see how effectly it stops axle wrap, i may get the driveline angle straight in line with the pinion flange for 0 degrees difference

recently i FINALLY replaced my timing cover.  the one i got is shitty though and i am going to replace it again in the future. the oil pump ring surface is grooved like crazy and it makes it so when i start my engine it takes longer than normal to build oil pressure, and i dont like that :_order:.  PLUS the valves i put in my engine are going to get replaced with stainless steel oversize ones.
but the good news is it doesnt leak anymore.

i also moved my front axle forward ANOTHER 2 and a half inches, and boy what a difference it makes!  my wheelbase is now 107".  i added onto my skys offroad front drop hanger, rather than cutting it off and moving it forward. i would have rather moved it all together but this was a lot easier.

after moving it forward more i have to make new bump stops on the frame, make a new shackle hanger for the front springs, make a strait shackle instead of the banana, reposition the upper shock mount on the hoop.

while i had the front springs off, i pulled out a leaf and went back to 5 like i originally had. i like it a lot better this way.
right after that i got excited about soft springs and pulled out a leaf of my f150  rear springs, so now they are 3 instead of 4 leafs. works MUCH better, since they were a 4 pack on a fullsize ford, and my toyota only weighs 3000lbs. also now the truck squats just a little bit in the rear, which is how i want it

also im getting set up for rear disk brakes

im going to take some pictures later today and put them up, i need to borrow someones camera first.

heres my to do list:

TIRES!!!!!!
front bumpstops and shackles
set up rear disk brakes
3" wheel spacers for the front
tub the firewall behind the tires
heavy wall round tube balanced drivelines front and rear
stainless oversize valves
round tube sliders
round tube bumpers
Marlins big knuckle bearing kit

pics coming later!!!!!  i have one half door 95% done and im working on the other one right now

my brand new 37 x 12.5 x 15 goodyear MTRs are on the way. ill be getting them mounted up next monday. needless to say im very excited.....ill post pics of how the truck sits before and after.  i like the height my truck is right now, so my goal is to have it sit on these new tires and be the same height it is now. this will involve either cutting the body lift in half or lowering the suspension, or a combination of both. should be interesting!

Halladay

not going to lie when i first was looking at your truck when it was camo i thought it was pretty gay... but you were happy with it so thats all that matters. but it looks like a totaly differnt rig now and i think it looks sick. i like it alot. i just think you need to stop worry what ppl think about your truck and do what you want to it. thats what makes it your truck. (for example the door locks on the half doors.) sure they are pointless but the look a hell of alot better than that hole in the side of your door. over all though its a good looking yota, nice job i was thinking it was going to just get worse after the first page but i was wrong. i like it now. keep doing what you are doing  :beerchug: (BTW other than the holes in yours doors the half doors look sick!)  :clap2:
