not having both the same gearing in the front as the back.. will cause them to bind if you are in 4wd

thought id throw that in there.

thanks for the friendly advice. although, i did know that. which is why i will unhook my front driveline when i drop in my new diff.  ill put it back on when i get the one for the front.
im putting in the new 5.29 diff into my IFS rear axle so Ill get a wider axle, bigger brake drums, 5.29 gears and an air locker all at once.  this is going to be awesome.

Actually, I'd leave it on just incase you get stuck somewhere or you really need it. It wont effect anything. Just make sure you unlock your hubs.

ive been waiting on :turtle: for 3 weeks now for my parts! ive been on a list to get my diff built. I found out once I called them and asked.  When I called I ordered the front diff too, so in the mail Ill be getting: two 5.29 ARB diffs and the ARB compact compressor.  Ill put one in my IFS rear axle and bolt that under my truck, break in the diff for 500 miles, put that diff in the front, and then put the second new diff in the rear axle and break that one in.  That way the front one is nice and strong just like the rear!

a locked toyota in 2wd is comparable to a open diff toyota in 4wd, atleast the way I look at it it is.

today was a fine day.  my diffs and compressor came, and i am impressed with the parts.  MC was waiting on a shipment from ARB for parts, so my purchase was delayed a few weeks.  oh well, atleast I have the parts now.  I cant believe how close the air line inside the 3rd member runs to the ring gear! theres about 1/4" at the most between the two.

Im going to start friday after work, since saturday is my day off.  hopefully I can do everything I have planned in a day.
Need to:
install all wiring and tubing for compressor and lockers
install compressor
install 5.29 diff in IFS rear axle to put under my truck
install my wheel spacers for my front axle, and also put the other diff in the front axle
put my chevy springs 3rd leaf back in, and shackle up the front to match the back.
modify IFS front driveline for more flex to be used under my truck for a while

i cant wait for friday
ill try and get some pictures

ok i scrapped that idea....
the new idea is to install them both at the same time, and drive around during the break in with the front hubs locked, but driving in 2wd.  that way the front will wear in at the same time. that will save me a ton of money on gas!

I have recently painted my truck and started playing with the front suspension.  I also just invested in a lincoln 220V mig welder setup...so needless to say I will start doing some fun things to my truck really soon.  anyways, I was bored and made a ramp to flex on out of some scrap chunks of 6x6 treated wood.

here is the new front stance with the toyota rear springs I set up up-front.  yes, I need new shocks, I already have hoops and everything to set it up. waiting on my welder to get here!  some 14" bilsteins are in order

kind of a cool picture

getting painted white

flat white is WAY better than camo!

heres the flex pics...I could have kept going up and kept the tires on the ground, but I ran out of ramp! I would have falled off the back if I drove up more.  I unhooked my little shocks from the front to see how much spring travel I have and to measure where I will put the shock hoops.  I LOVE these front springs!

view from the front

front tire tucks well with NO rubbing whatsoever

here you can see the nice custom spring packs flexing and twisting their magic

back view

this is a cool picture, the tire is like balancing there haha

lots more progress!! this truck is getting badass, im pretty happy.  heres a lot of pics.

heres my exhaust i just got done today

you cant see it!  the guys at the shop i went to KICK ASS. he knew exactly how it needed to be. i couldnt have asked for any better of a job.  160$

heres the pics of my new front suspension.  rear springs with 5 leaves, 14" bilsteins, 14" hoops, sky manufacturing flat billet pitman arm, skys 2 inch drop no logo hanger, skys banana shackles, fj rotors, new 4runner calipers with semi metallic pads, rebuilt the whole front axle, square driveline done.  all thats left now is a u bolt flip kit HAHA

this is my rear axle, showing the pinion angle and clearance

this is a picture from before i even did any of this front suspension work!

heres all the new stuff getting tested in the back of the lumber yard i work at.  the tire was atleast hip high and all the tires were on the ground solid...could have gone higher easily.

my truck and my dads truck

saved some money!

what a mess and a lot of work!  this is my life

truck "in the shop" aka "my garage"

heres my custom shackles at work,  I have yet to cut the top of the clamps off of the chevy springs.  i suspect when i cut the restricting clamps ( you can see where it grabbed the spring and stopped the suspension from further drooping ) the springs will flex to the point where the shackle will max it out.

well, what do you think?

the first next step is cleaning up the frame and painting it along with the new parts.
after that i will start making bumpers and sliders, and I need to reinforce the rear of the frame right behind the rear shackle hanger

I wouldn't take those restricting clamps off, you will get mad axle wrap and end result being bent springs. Truck is looking good man.

hey man it's looking great!

I finally got that steering on my truck and it's awesome!  It took a full afternoon to figure out and install.  I never thought something as novel as one-handed u-turns would make me so happy  :ha_ha:

yes thats what am referring too, maybe they say to mount them like that i guess, i never had blistens, umm

so what tires are you going to run, the ones that are on there now look a lil small

yeah dude, i wouldnt mount my shocks upside down. no worries, everything is set up right.

as far as tires go, i hate the ones i have now. they have excellent traction in the rain and mud and rocks, but they are definatley small.  i have other things i need to spend money on before i can justiy buying new tires, becuase these work great. their only downfall is they are small and look dumb.  Whatever tire i go with will be either a 35 or most likely 36.  I would go 37 but I drive this truck every day and i need to keep it somewhat quick.  i would love to get the toyo MT but they are a ton of money.  super swampers will probably be my choise in the end. i like the tsl/sx. ill probably stick with 15" rim, and get as much backspacing as i can

i cut the clamps, so it flexes WAY harder now.  i only cut the top off where it bends 90degrese over the top of the springs.  i left the sides so the springs settle like they are supposed to after articulation. the picture is just so you know what im talking about. its the same pic as before

i turned my rear driveshaft into a cv driveshaft.  I took the front double cardan joint off of an 86 4runner, rebuilt it and cut and spliced and welded it to my 82s driveshaft.  the angle on my pinion is only a couple of degrees from that of my driveline, so all i have to do now is get a small shim under my leaf springs and ill be set.  i got the shaft as straight as i possibly could, and the results are excellent! its not balanced yet and it doesnt vibrate! i cant wait to get it balanced at a shop this week.  i must say i did a damn good job. heres pics
