Re: Time to build..... Question Please Help!
« Reply #188 on: Aug 05, 2008, 10:00:09 PM »
Well heres my question. At night when I drive, my volt gauge reads just under the line before the 18, however when I go into nuetral and turn the blinker on the back lights dim and the gauge reads just a hair above half. Any ideas why that is? Like I said above when I am driving in the day it never moves. But when I am driving at night, shift into nuetral and turn the blinker on it goes to half. The altinator in pretty new, I think I put a new one in sometime at the begining of this year. Any help would be greatly appreciated!  :beerchug:

Ok, I am not going to read the whole thread right now, I do not have the time to, but can you explain how you did the 91 grill swap? Was just a straight swap? All the clips line up? what about the headlight "doors" aka headlight surrounds? I am thinking about doing this on my 85. Thanks!

i know you cant swap and 87 to a 94. lol tried and its too long. the headlight doors dont match to the headlight locations.... so can you tell us how you did it? i know you have to ziptie it.

My first grille got broken so I got another 85 grille but it was originally chrome that someone painted green. I wanted chrome so I tried steel wool the paint off but it took way to long. So I ended up painting it black, my corner lights are chrome so I didnt like the look. My buddy had a 91 grille on his 88 and I really liked it. I found one for sale and picked it up, I would rather have the toyota symbol then the word but oh well. Anyway I had to use zipties instead of screws. The headlight buckets are the 91 headlight buckets. The holes line up kinda, the 91 grilles screw tabs are not as long as an 85 grille. It is not hard at all, I have never broke any zipties, you can do a clean job and make it look like it is supposed to be there.

cool, I have a 90 grille and headlight door assembly laying around, I might check it out. So the stock 2nd gen marker (corner) lights still worked just fine?

ya no problem. while your at it you should switch the running lights with the turn signals. I did, the plugs are the same. So the turn signals on the bumper are now my running lights. If you have the turn signals on your bumper.

well, I am running a Marlin bumper, so my turn signals are on it... I will look at the condition of the 90 grill and see if it is even worth doing. My 85 grill is in perfect shape, so I really have no reason to swap it other than for looks. If the 90 grill isn;t in pretty good shape I probably wont swap it.

dam this thing is clean im WAY stoked on the paint job. very original and looks bitchin. i think your truck would look soooooo sick if you got a first gen camper like this, but painted black.

I had a black shell on it for a while but I didnt like how tall it was in the rear. I plan on getting a camper shell that fits good, and is not a high back.

well I know I said it is put on hold but I ordered and bought new parts. I was on my way home from a trail and my drivers side tire was moving an awful lot so I sung over to my cuz' house (1985efiyota) and we got to looking at it and I sheered off 3 outta the 4 studs on the knuckle. So I know I could have just bought new studs but I didn't. Thomas (1985efiyota) and I went in on buying a axle. It had fj60 rotors, v6 calipers and hubs, high steer, a v6 third, 27 spline longs for 500 bucks. So we split the cost and split up the parts. I got the knuckles, longs, his old hubs, and the hex head drain plugs. Then I we ordered parts from Marlin and Trail-Gear. I got a axle truss, ARP studs, rear spring hangers, dust shield eliminator kit, and a few more things I just cant think of them right now. Also he had 2 matching rear leaf packs that we berried under some plywood, so I am going to mix my 44044s and my new to me stock rear leafs. Anyway so my plan is to put on the new knuckles, put in the birfs and inner axles, weld on my truss, mix my leafs, put my lockrite that is in the rear now, in the front. Weld on the rear hangers and put in my f150s, put in a new clutch and finish up my half doors. So yesterday we started tearing down the new (to us) axle
