No new news yet.  I'll hopefully be finishing up the temporary exhaust next week.  I'll also be installing my sky boomerang shackles.  I stuck some tape going from the front fender down to the tire so I can actually see how much lift it yeilds.  I need to get back to pnp and see if I can find some longer rear shackles on anything that may fit mine too  :crossed:

So the good extended weather is ending, and the valley floor might even get snow in the next few days or so...   :smack:

Got that 4by runnin' yet?   :gap:

Well... it does run, but it may be a little loud right now  :gap:  I did finally install the dog leg exhaust piece today.  I got tired of trying to make it fit over the header adapter, so I finally pulled it back off and ground it to fit.  It fit very tight, actually had to beat it on.  I have some other crap to do this weekend, but it shouldn't take me too long to button up the exhaust, and I may even snag a set of all terrain 31s this weekend just to get by

I like it, especially if I can do it on a jig in the garage instead of in the driveway under the vehicle.  Here's the last thing I built for another MR2 guy:

Normally it comes out of the header, goes left into a catalytic converter, loops 180 degrees to a long cylindrical muffler, and exits on the right side.  This system was for a track car and he didn't want the cat, so this was a little simpler.  Supposed to be as short and light as practical.

Werd, but my intention is to get some straight sections of pipe, get some random mandrel bent pieces and make my setup tucked up nice and tight without losing diameter on the bends like you do when a shop bends it for you.

Aaron, is that just spray paint or did you have it coated?

I should look into having them coated inside and out.  It would be nice to offer something better.

Got the exhaust on tonight - first impression is it's too damn loud!  Tried getting it tuned but it just wants to cough and sputter like it's cross firing within the cap.  I don't doubt the weber needs to be rebuilt, but I definately can't drive this thing to work cause it coughs and stumbles all over itself.  Plus I need to flush and refill the power steering reservoir, then figure out why the brake pedal has no feeling whatsoever.  I know the 1" mc has never had much travel, but there's no feeling to it at all.

I may tomorrow.  It was snowing on and off all day, but did start sticking later.  Snow was actually sticking to my legs while I was laying under the truck doing the exhaust  :haha:  I kinda need it.

I hate to say it, but I'm kinda getting tired of working on it and am starting to do some serious thinking about what I'd hafta do to get a tacoma 4by.  I'd probably sell all but 1 other truck to do it, and get down from 3 street bikes to 1.... or maybe 2  :gap:

Not really.  Here's the current list.

91 2wd toy:  dd, nothing really wrong with it.
80 4by:  used to be dd, quite a few issues to work out
81 2wd:  also used to be dd, beat up body and chassis, no engine, looks like poo, needs to be retired but has sentimental value.
82 2wd:  bought cheap to fix and sell, over half way through fixing, need to finish and sell or...
91 4runner:  light roll, has been sitting too long and interior is pretty shot, don't know if it runs but it ran when rolled.

01 f4i:  track, need to install clutch cover, test fire, prep bodywork and sell.
00 vfr800:  cranks over but won't start, need to either part out or sell whole.
01 f4i:  street, probably keep and relegate to mostly track duty after I get a new bike.

Started thinking about the truck while I was working and it hit me.  My friend came over months ago when it was a short block sitting on the stand, grabbed the crank and rotated the engine before I could holler at him to stop.  Everything seemed to come together properly, but I'm starting to wonder if he might have got it a tooth off.

I don't doubt the weber needs a thorough cleaning too, I just started thinking maybe the cam timing is off.  It's supposed to get sunny wednesday, hopefully it gets warmer by the weekend so I can invest some more time in fixing this thing.  I need to bleed the lspv too.

When I was able to store them all on my property, yes.  When they overflow my property and cost me money to store each month, it turns out you can have too many toyotas.  My collection needs liposuction, stat!

one time i installed my timing chain one tooth off and my cylinder head had been machined so much (from previous owner) that that valves were hitting the pistons :yikes: left flat spots on one side of the piston. that was a horrible noise. that was actually my dads fault, not me. make sure your timing isnt 180 degrees off and check your timing chain! if the timing was 180 off it woudlnt run though

What the hell you talkin bout boy  :headscratch:

I think it's 1 tooth off if anything, like you said it wouldn't run if it was 180 out, just cought and sputter while cranking over.  I should know, every i/o I installed this summer that was built by employee X was 180 out  :shake:

At this point it could be:
1 tooth off
junked up carb
bad distributor  :dunno:
bad distributor cap, bridging between contacts

I hope it's clear this weekend, and not ass cold.  If it is cold, I think I'll chuck a space heater under the engine and I'll be fine  :smokin:

Oooooohhhhhh  :haha:  It's beige.... or tan.  You can buy it for $500 how it sits now if you want though, but you'd hafta put it back together yourself   Fyi, it smells like a dank old ash tray.  Rebuilt head still sitting in the bag, toyota head gasket ready to install.  I really just need to get off my ass and get it running so I can sell it off and have a little cushion.

Drive down to buy them.... but don't forget to snag the tires from kyota for me before you leave  :burnout:

Nothing new today, but I think I'm going to go snag a set of wheels from storage and mount up my 35s.  I'm thinking about running the air soft bb's instead of having them balanced.... thoughts?

Did a little tinkering and made some progress.  It wasn't idling high really, but it did mostly stop loping and missing when I backed the idle screw out a bit.  I screwed around with the mixture and it seemed to run best with the screw way out, and I was able to get rid of quite a bit of low rpm hesitation, but the biggest discovery was that the hesitation completely dissappeared when I closed the choke down about 2/3.  I'm thinking I either have a plugged jet or orifice, but the float also seems to be set really low since there wasn't even fuel over the jets when I pulled the top off the carb!

i had a small piece of sand in my carburetor one time and it got lodged where the fuel flows past the mixture screws.  it threw everything out of whack! the truck ran funny, i got bad mileage, and it wouldnt hold an idle.  i took the entire carb apart and the 2nd mixture screw (mines a weber 38) was the very last thing i checked and sure enough there was a piece of sand in it. that was the only particle of dirt in the whole thing and it made it not want to run. carbs are real sensitive
