Here is my new list of stuff I need to get done.  I haven't checked anything off of it yet, and I am adding to it!

  • Rebuild Passenger front knuckles w/ SST
  • Pull rear diff and check (gears whine.  I botched the set up, it was my first time!)
  • Build a new carrier bearing mount.
  • Get new spring perches and change pinion angle (maybe)
  • New u-bolts on the front axle.
  • Build a battery mounting bracket for the yellow top
  • Look into doing a 2 line drop brake set up (where you only have two lines running to the axles, not 3).
  • Convert all brake lines to -3AN lines, get rid of stupid hard line at the caliper, if possible!

your pics helped me out Soooo much today!! had to drop my tranny sooner than i wanted. The clutch fork clips that hold the throwout bearing on bent and popped off on the highway saturday allowing the bearing to wabble which made it so the clutch wouldnt engage and i couldnt get into any gears along with making a horible noice, and had to get it towed back to town.

Hell yeah, I am making the CO run this year FOR SURE, I am going even if I have to take my quad! I have two buddys that are interested in going too, PhantomD and Rock Ranger

Got a small update.

  • Rebuild Passenger front knuckles w/ SST (waiting on  :turtle:)
  • Pull rear diff and check (gears whine.  I botched the set up, it was my first time!)
  • Build a new carrier bearing mount. Can't build it properly with out modifying gas tank skid. Build a 1 piece shaft  :shakehead:
  • Get new spring perches and change pinion angle (maybe) More likely now that I will have a one piece shaft
  • New u-bolts on the front axle.
  • Build a battery mounting bracket for the yellow top
  • Look into doing a 2 line drop brake set up (where you only have two lines running to the axles, not 3). maybe next winter
  • Convert all brake lines to -3AN lines, get rid of stupid hard line at the caliper, if possible! maybe next winter

Still LOTS to do!

Got some more done today. Moving VERY slowly, been working on this .

  • Rebuild Passenger front knuckles w/ SST (waiting on  :turtle:)
  • Pull rear diff and check (gears whine.  I botched the set up, it was my first time!)
  • Build a 1 piece rar shaft  :shakehead:
  • Get new spring perches and change pinion angle (maybe) More likely now that I will have a one piece shaft
  • New u-bolts on the front axle.
  • Build a battery mounting bracket for the yellow top
  • Look into doing a 2 line drop brake set up (where you only have two lines running to the axles, not 3). maybe next winter
  • Convert all brake lines to -3AN lines, get rid of stupid hard line at the caliper, if possible! maybe next winter

Actually drove the damn thing for the first time in a few months.  Just turned it around out front with only the front under power.  I really need to find motivation...  Usually I am on top of getting my  :pokinit:, just not lately...

Seemed to get allot done tonight.  Got my new drive shaft installed, and took a pic of the angle.  No need to re-do the spring perches!

Took the rear end apart...  First thing that I found was that the passenger side drum was full of something nasty. My best guess is brake fluid mixed with lots of brake dust.  The leak is not a constant. Looks like some fluid made it around the wheel cylinder while I was bleeding it.  Need new rear brakes...

Than I got to the diff.  MAN something went wrong with that pregnant dog.  its got like .040 backlash. The pattern is weird, not what I remember putting in there. I am guessing that I didn't torque the adjusting wheels tight enough.  Any ideas?  I think that I have seen ZUK take one like this apart, and just set it back up.  I am thinking thats what I am going to do for now, if I can find the build where ZUK does it.  I will try to get pics later, but I will probably forget!

  • Rebuild Passenger front knuckles w/ SST (waiting on  :turtle:)
  • Pull rear diff and check (gears whine.  I botched the set up, it was my first time!)
  • Gears are set up wrong. I need to figure out what to do with them.
  • Build a 1 piece rar shaft  :shakehead:
  • Get new spring perches and change pinion angle Didn't need to, pinion angle looks pretty good
  • New u-bolts on the front axle.
  • INSTALL REAR SHOCKS!!!! (can't believe I have been lifted for almost 2 years, w/o rear shocks!  :shake_head:)

We have an extra 4.56 diff that will be tagging along to Moab.  That way if it decides to blow, I will be able to get home, in 2WD of course, and VERY slowly, but I will get home!

Here is a link to Zuks sight, where he re-conditions a set of gears where the BL is too high.
http://gearinstalls.com/brian2.htm

I am going to wing it! Hopefully I can get to diff work soon!

what kinda dial indicator are you using?

i have just a HF one i used and it worked good i built gears for trail only though... my main problem was tightening the backlash? rings u really gotta clean out that area and get them all most perfect before you thread them... any advice on that?

I just use a HF indicator too.  I have done so many now that threading the carrier bearing adjusting rings is no big deal. I have a spanner wrench set up for a 1/2in drive (for the torque wrench) and about a 12in for just setting up.  Use anti-seize like ZUK does. Also remember to tap the bearing caps, it makes a big difference! Just do some research at http://www.gearinstalls.com/.

The most important things when setting up a yota diff is Carrier bearing pre-load, and pinion pre-load!!

ALMOST DONE!

  • Rebuild Passenger front knuckles w/ SST (waiting on  :turtle:)
  • Pull rear diff and check gears whine.  (I botched the set up, it was my first time!)
  • Gears are set up wrong. Adjusted back lash, and CBPL, Pinion depth looks OK. RUN IT!
  • Build a 1 piece rar shaft  :shakehead:
  • Get new spring perches and change pinion angle Didn't need to, pinion angle looks pretty good
  • New u-bolts on the front axle.
  • INSTALL REAR SHOCKS!!!! (can't believe I have been lifted for almost 2 years, w/o rear shocks!  :shake_head:)
  • Get a new proportioning valve
\/
Got my shocks done. Found a easy solution for the exhaust, using all factory parts, plus the hangers cut off the old muffler.

I rotated the muffler so that the exhaust is closer to the driver frame rail.  Than I just cut the two old hangers off of the muffler, and welded them to the new muffler, and to the rear exhaust hanger.  I bought the CHEAPEST muffler I could, so it came with no new hangers, but if you get a nice muffler, you can just cut off and re-arrange the hangers.

The truck rides way better now. I also replaced the brake master cylinder, and played with the LSPV.  The fronts actually lock up now, but it has ALLOT to do with the LSPV.  Bottom line, LSPV NEEDS TO GO!!  Should be ordering a new, manual, proportioning valve very soon, maybe even tonight, if I can find one that will work well!

If you haven't tossed the LSPV yet, check this out:

http://www.4x4spot.com/proportioning.htm

Screw ordering stuff; get some junkyard parts and DIY. It's how I did mine; sems to work good so far.

That simples applies full pressure to the front and the rear no matter what.  In that case my rears lock up before my fronts. (the back of my truck doesn't weigh squat) and makes braking on a wet/slippery surface a little sketch.  I am going to do the same thing you did, except add a proportioning valve, so that my fronts lock up JUST before the rears.

yeah, dude that took that was cool.  Yes my t-case did seal up, my whole truck is sealed up.  No leaks ANYWHERE!  However, it did leak briefly when the rear output flange came loose on the t-case. I have no idea what that was about.  I have LOTS of updates to post, but I am far to busy with school and work to even think about catching up right now.  Maybe I will get to it next month.
