I have been wheeling for about 9 years now, I started with a stock 89 Jeep Wrangler and did I mild build with that, but after seeing My friends truck (Phazertwo) I decided it was time to build a Toyota rock crawler.

My jeep, currently for sale!

I bought a built 88 4-runner from another good friend (KDC) and will be using all the parts from that to put into an extra cab pickup that I picked up from phazertwos father. it's a bit of a basket case, but should be awesome once I am done.

Here is the run down:

SAS w/ 83? front axle, High pinion e-locker  :bling:
rear axle w/ lock right locker (might be another e-locker soon!)
Dual cases, (2.28/4.7) all marlin parts
4" Marlin lift
35" BFG muds (older style)
Bobbed bed
custom sliders
custom rear bumper
MAYBE a front bumper for my winch (Superwinch EPi9.0)

otherwise mostly stock...

and all these sweet parts will be going into this beast. I will be bobbing the bed before I am done too... and lets not forget a paint job sometime this summer.

Today (1/12/10) we started the SAS... the day started at about 3pm and finished at 10pm, we started with a running drivable truck, and ended up with this:

I will be borrowing a plasma cutter to cut the IFS brackets off, I still have to remove the torsion bars but thats about it.

The issue we have run into is a lack of space to tear down the 4-runner... not really sure how to do that yet.

The runner was getting a bit old, LOTS of rust, and it had been wheeled hard and put away wet, flopped at least once...

Plus I really want a truck.

damn...

I should have asked.

as of right now, all I need are motor mount plates, dual case adapter tranny seal, rear spring hangers, bushings all around, SFA wheel bearings, another spare birf.

I will probably find more once I start tearing down the 4runner.

I am hoping to have dual e-lockers soon, I will need to set them up with some 4.88s before my moab trip (march 22-26th) That might be a bit tough since I am so slammed for time.

I hope to have a plasma cutter tomorrow, I will hopefully be torching the IFS brackets on sunday and finishing tearing down the 4Runner whilst leaving it rolling... I wont remove the suspension till I get it on the trailer on it's way to the scrap yard...

hopefully in a week or two...

Got the plasma started today... It was the first time I have ever used a plasma cutter. I am still a little scared of catching myself on fire.

but it was a lot of fun!

got most of the brackets cut, I still need to grind them smooth but I am well on my way...

I will be working more on tuesday evening, school starts this week so I will have less time... I cant slow down though....

60DAYS and counting!!!

Got some more progress tonight!

Phazertwo helped me out bigtime... He finished cutting off the IFS brackets with the plasma and helped me wire in a new plug for the garage so I will stop tripping the breaker when the compressor kicks on.

I did not have my camera with me tonight, but its nothing most of you have not seen before... I still need to grind down the IFS bracket remnants...

THEN I need to tear down the 4-runner...

I will hopefully get the rest of my marlin order in this week and hopefully get a lot of ground covered this saturday getting the truck prepped and the 4-runner ready to be stripped and taken to the junk yard.

I still have to:
bob the bed
fix the rear stereo speakers
weld up the new suspension mounts
wire up the front e-locker
install the 1" body lift
install the dual cases

yeah... LOTS TO DO!!!! and to top it off I am back in school!

61 DAYS TILL MOAB!!!

plasmas are awsome tools.

YES YES They are... makes cutting the brackets off a VERY easy endeavor (at least those who have used them before)
but they are not hard to master, especially if you have any welding experience.

I ordered a antenna mount for the ham radio today, hopefully I can get a clean install when I get that all together.

Well I have been pretty much working on the truck every spare moment I have, Phazertwo and Rough Ranger have been a HUGE help, they have pretty much done all the hard work and hand holding since I know nothing about toyotas and I can't weld.

I dont have a lot of pictures, only the ones I have taken with my iPhone.

so here is where it sits today, this is a poser shot since the front axle is not yet built, should be in by the end of the week. Looks like I can fit the 14" shocks so those are on order as well. The front axle has both the truss and diff armor installed, and after our moab trip I will be installing a marlin knuckle ball gusset kit. At some point longs will be in there as well, but the funds are not ready for that investment.

It looks a little tall because we leveled out the truck to the rear suspension, which has no bed on it... I will probably be running a full length bed till after moab when I get a chance to bob it.

I ran into a problem with the V6 adapter, I have the old style plate which does not have the new seal adapter, but yet I have the seal adapter??

I sent that off to marlin and they are going to update it to the "latest and greatest" Marlin ROCKS!

One of my favorite little mods so far are my Carling contura V series switches from www.OTRATTW.com, his shipping was SUPER fast and what a great product with a lot of choices. I will be doing Dual e-lockers, the front locker is wired with a inchworm kit and I will be wiring the rear with a stock locker ECU, so the switches were different, the front is a DPDT (to mimic the inchworm switch)and the rear is a simple SPST, what I like about the carling switches is you can get them with an independently wired light, so I can remove the inchworm LED and wire it directly to the switch, so the switch will light up when the locker is actually engaged, I can do this with the rear locker switch as well, but it will blink just like the stock dash light while its engaging. I hope to eventually wire a stock locker ECU to the front locker or simply use the two relay method.

I have a TG winch plate on order so I will have a winch by moab, I probably wont have a full bumper by then, but I am either thinking custom or a frontier4x4 weld together kit.

once I get the v6 adapter situation fixed I need to build a t-case crossmember, I will be using an FROR plate and a custom 1.5" dia tube mount. again phazertwo and rough ranger will be helping me weld and bend the tube. I am hoping I can re-use the front d-shaft from the 4-runner and and phazertwo upgraded to a one piece rear shaft so I got his shortened shaft to use with the dual cases.

I have a lot to do and VERY LITTLE TIME!!! we are leaving march 21st for moab, so it needs to be done by then or I will be driving the jeep!!! :yikes: :yikes:

Well less then a week till we leave for moab and I am driving the truck!

It's ROCK SOLID! no vibes, no weird noises, just smooth as butter... I could not be happier.

I still need to build sliders and weld on the parking brake mount, replace the front d-shaft with a long spline one, and re-route the exhaust around the area for the rear shocks.

Here is the only picture I have, sorry I took it with my phone... The driveway is at a bit of an incline, so it looks a bit weird.
