On rear disk conversions there is a part that you need that keeps a small amount of pressure on the rear brakes, I can't remember what it's called, but I will let you know tomarrow. I hope this fixes you prob.

QuoteAre the calipers seized? I'd pull em off and blow the pistons out, clean it all up a bit...maybe even kit 'em.  You said your buddy had them, right? Were they sitting or installed?

Nah calipers are not siezed.... don't ask how I know this.. I just picked up a brand new set today due to the fact someone thread locked the bleeder valves into the caliper and I busted an easy-out inside... couldn't get it out, even went to a machine shop and they couldnt help.. once that hardened steel get's in there its fug'd. Tried chipping... tried drilling around... no mas'

tried every trick in the book  :tantrum:

that'd be a residual valve.

gtoyonrocks

That's it, that's the name of it, I think that may be what is causing your problem. What do the rest of you guys think? I know that this part is needed on the toyota rear disk brake conversion, if you don't run one the peddle will feel soft.

... I'm not running toyota rear disc's..

Its a 14 bolt with Dana 44 rotors and calipers.

I don't think that matters. I think you always have to change that or whatever whenever you convert from drum to disc on any car. I learned all about this in school but I can't remember everything.

If you wound forget that you have friends you could have ask me but THATS COOL I GUESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you need a proportioning valve I think i miss spell that but anyways. U see the way it works is when you have drum brakes you have 70/30 stopping power when you have disc rear brakes Whit out a ------valve you have 50/50 the -----valve will make it 60/40 which is what its supposed be on rear disc brakes you kw on my # call me u sammamabiatch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! siner :bash: :bash: :hammer:

The residual valve is used to keep some pressure on the brakes so the pistons are not completely empty before applying pedal pressure. Not having one won't make the pedal go to the floor.

A prop valve is to provide brake bias to a system that was originally set up disc/drum. Adjusting this changes the amount of fluid sent to the calipers at any given pedal location.

For your setup, I'd reccomend the GM 1 ton MC. Many guys running mini trucks with 1 tons run them and they do great. The fboosters on first gen trucks work but the later (88' + IIRC) boosters are dual diaphram and provide more boost. Same bolt pattern too. These tend to work better.

On my Cruiser with 60/14 I ran 1 ton calipers front and 3/4 in back. I have a Wilwood prop valve behind a 1 ton MC and never had an issue slowing the truck down.

Also, you need to make sure you have absolutely no air in the system. When changing MCs, you figure you are pulling air out of the system from front to back so it will take a while to get it all out. I have a vacuum pump and I let it pull on all wheels for 5-10 mins and then I go back to each wheel again for another couple of minutes. Almost sounds like you might have a little bit of air still in there.

I assume that you were already running a proportioning valvle. You can run the proportioning valve of of an older 2 wheel drive, they are mounted on the booster, and they give you 60/40 braking power, but you will still need a risidual valve, you need that on any kind of rear disk break conversion, at least to best of my knowledge, you do.

Only prop valve I ran was the Wilwood unit. No residual valves and I could lock my 42s up at will.

Well, it was just a thought, I hope you get that thing figured out.

Latest work on the rig, still need to run a piece of 1 3/4" tube from the hoop to the upper section, i'll have more progress PICTURES next weekend of my hydro cooler install and hopefully the Rockstomper 1 ton MC.

As soon as this thing gets brakes and a hydro cooler to keep it steering and stopping.

I'd like to take it out atleast one more time before MCR to make sure nothing "unexpected" is going to happen. Still looking for someone to roll in with on Sept 13th (Thursday)

Jason PM me your number and i'll hit you up before I plan anything.

That probably wasn't the right fix for that...the plate is in the wrong plane to brace against the bending moment induced by the cantilevered shock mount.

not being used as a support more for looks then anything really....

my brace will be a piece of 1 3/4" tube that will go strait up and down from where the coilover mounts to the upper tube on the exo.

Illustrated in this picture, you get the idea!

I'll be surprised if it doesn't get you good brakes. You might still want a bigger booster down the road but this should get you something you're comfortable with. Just remember, Bleed the heck out of them and then bleed them some more.

you might want to bench bleed the master before you hook it up.  Always helps me anyhow. :twocents:

no progress this weekend, still awaiting parts and my Tahoe's getting a new fuel pressure regulator.

My wifes new toy, Extreme CR 90 that's been modded with an aftermarket exhaust, intake and jetted carb kit.

Its an automatic so she doesn't have to worry about shifting gears, pretty fast as well!
