My wife's nephew is currently in Iraq, he is going to be home (WV.) for Xmas and we were going to fly his grandma out for the holiday's with his family. Unfortunatly my wife went to CA with her to my daughters for Thanksgiving and currently they are at the hospital and they may have to do heart surgery. Will not be a good homecomming if things go bad here.  She was supposed to leave Tues. and he was coming home by weeks end.

well folks i have a Christmas story or poem I would like to post here... :usa:

'Twas the night before Christmas (Military version)

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the skies,
Air defences were up, with electronic eyes.
Combat pilots were nestled in ready-room beds,
As enemy silhouettes danced in their heads.

Every jet on the apron, each SAM in its tube,
Was triply-redundant, linked to the Blue Cube,
And ELINT and AWACS gave coverage so dense
That nothing that flew could slip through our defence.

When out of the klaxon arose such a clatter
I dashed to the screen to see what was the matter;
I increased the gain and then, quick as a flash,
Fine-adjusted the filters to damp out the hash.

And there found the source of the warning we'd heeded:
An incoming blip, by eight escorts preceded.
"Alert status red!" went the word down the wire,
As we gave every system the codes that meant "FIRE!"

On Aegis! Up Patriot, Phalanx and Hawk!
And scramble our fighters--let's send the whole flock!
Launch decoys and missiles! Use chaff by the yard!
Get the kitchen sink up! Call the National Guard!

They turned toward the target, moved toward it, converged.
Till the tracks on the radar all finally merged,
And the sky was lit up with a demonic light,
As the foe met his fate in the high arctic night.

So we sent out some recon to look for debris,
Yet all that they found, both on land and on sea
Were some toys, a red hat, a charred left leather boot,
Broken sleigh bells, white hair, and a deer's parachute.

Now it isn't quite Christmas, with Saint Nick shot down.
There are unhappy kids in each village and town.
For the Spirit of Christmas can't hope to evade
All the web of defences we've carefully made.

But a crash program's on: Working hard, night and day,
All the elves are constructing a radar-proof sleigh.
So let's wait for next Christmas, in cheer and in health,
For the future has hope: Santa's coming by stealth!

They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! And I will make them pay for what they've done!

This just came across my desk....I checked Snopes...it's true...

Something cool that Xerox is doing

If you go to this web site, www.letssaythanks.com , you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq. You can't pick out who gets it, but it will go to some member of the armed services.

How AMAZING it would be if we could get everyone we know to send one!!!

This is a great site.

It is FREE and it only takes a second.

We truly take a lot for granted. Forget the football "heroes" and movie "stars".

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you,

Jesus Christ and the American Soldier

      One died for your soul;

      the other for your freedom.

Let's Bring Em Home is a real-deal non-profit organization which takes donations toward plane tickets to fly military personnel home for the holidays.  They are in their 6th year of doing this and it has been highly successful.

Please visit the website below to find out how you can help, and to get the background of the organization.  It is run by an awesome guy named Ernie who is a die-hard supporter of our troops.  He gets absolutely nothing from this other than the satisfaction of helping out the service men and women who otherwise could not afford to spend the holidays with their families.  They can take donations of any size and accept PayPal and many other means of donating, and all donations are tax deductible.  These and tons of other details are available on the website, and trust me folks, I would not lead you astray.  This is a genuine organization doing awesome things for the military.  Please visit the site and find out.

I posted the same thing four posts up from this :slap:

But I got no response to it here so since this is a stickied topic I started it's own thread to get more attention. Didn't get nearly as much attention as I had hoped!

First off, thanks for the post.

In the spring I am headed back to Afghanistan for my 3rd tour. I also have 2 tours in Iraq. While some may believe that it is crazy to have been deployed so much, I have volunteered for every deployment I have been on. I love this country and will defend it until I can defend no longer. Thank you all for your support to all of our armed forces. We greatly appreciate it.

I spent a little time in airports across our great land this month, along with a large quantity of our Service Members.  Was nice to be able to walk up and talk with them a bit, and shake their hands and say a personal Thank You.

I talked to one young man who was just coming home, and he told me He has to go back in March after being there for something like 176 months I think he said.  I felt terrible for this kid, tried to buy him a soda or something and he would'nt let Me do it.

Shook his hand and asked Him to pass along My thanks and those of My family to His buddies.

God bless them one and all.

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till souls wax fair as earth and air
And music-hearted sea!

O beautiful for pilgrims feet,
Whose stem impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till paths be wrought through
wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!

O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife
When once and twice,
for man's avail
Men lavished precious life!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain
The banner of the free!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!

When my son signed up I was like you just worried about Him. But now I see the big picture and how nasty the world can be. Your Brother is doing what He feels is right and you should support His decision to keep this world safe & free as did his brothers be for him did to keep Him You & Me living free & safe! Your Brother is a great Canadian and he is doing the right thing!

God Bless Your Brother!

Why would you be talking SENSE into him by convince'n him to stay home?  not try'n to start a fight but your brother probably has the same view as I do... I want to DO something... I want to answer the call of my country and uphold what rights and values we enjoy today... to me... the only sensible thing I've done with my life was to sign that dotted line...

Like I said I'm not trying to pick a fight or anything... just offering another point of view... probably closer to your older brothers...

That being said... I have a little brother over there... and I'd do anything to ensure he's out of danger... if I could... I'd change places with him... but it makes me damn proud to call him my brother...  I hope your as proud of yours...
