... these tires didnt budge at all till they were under 8 new, now they are nice and soft and flexible.

Volcom, maybe your slightly "used" tires are already broken in and don't need to be aired down as much.

Yeah they're great and all but on my buggy I wouldn't trade having my Trail Ready beadlocks for having regular wheels with stauns.  My beadlock rings have saved my wheels from getting bent.  Thats one of the big advantages to having a true beadlock is reinforcing the lip of the wheels.

Hey man, i know this is from your post along time ago, but in this pic you say the egr valve. Last night doing my install i noticed i had a leak also and thought that this big plate right off the back of the head was the egr valve.  When i pulled the bolts out antifreeze came gushing out.  Do you or anyone else know what the hell this plate with the bolts is and if i screwed anything up by breaking the seal??

Sorry to highjack your thread but it's your picture i have the ? on. Thanks

Hummer, Hutchinson, Stazworks...all street-legal two peice double beadlocks.

True dat. Theirs lots of them now. I think the only vairbility may possably be state.  I am not sure I would think DOT approved was nation wide but one site sellin them said they may not be legal in every state.

The EGR valve looks like this

That black plate with the tube in it transfers coolant from one water port on the head to another one.  I don't think you screwed anything up by taking it off.  It might have a metal gasket on it and reusing it would be fine as long as you didn't bend it up taking it off.  You could use a small bead of RTV to seal it up if need be.

actually, that thing transfers exhaust from the exhaust side of the engine to the EGR valve, and coolant is in the head behind it.  it is called the exhaust cooler or some :pokinit:.  it's main purpose is to lower the temp of exhaust before it is redirected into the intake.

You're right.  I couldn't remember if that tube carried exhaust or coolant when I rebuilt my motor.

Went out today and borrowed a forklift to try and figure out how much triming it's going to take to fit the 40's

Picking up the rear to flex out the front springs.  We were able to pick up the left rear tire 31" before the right rear would lift off of the ground.  Not bad for a leaf sprung truck!

There was only 2" of clearance between the pinch seam and the tire.  I will need about 5 more inches of clearance for the larger tires.  I plan on lowering the bumpstop and maybe moving the axle forward an inch by drilling the spring perches and U-bolt plates.

I took the rear gate off to make it easier to work on the truck.  I also have an extra tailgate thanks to a friend of mine to replace my BV dented one  :D

Hard rubbing on the passenger rear tire.  I will need 5" of clearance back here also.  I will probably trim between the two lines on the quarter panel.

Flex shot, pretty stable even at that angle.

Nice forklift and the big tire to try and fit

Picking up the front to flex the rear springs.  I was able to lift the front tire 27" before picking up the passenger side tire.

Say goodbye to the front fenders

Passenger side rear.  I'm planning on following the outline of the fender at the top of the cut.

Not bad flex!

question.... cudnt you stretch the bed part of the 4runner body.... in front of the wheel well. and then bob the back part an equal amount.? have that tire back in the correct visual spot..
and have the top still fit?

Cut the whole truck in half?   Now that would be fun!  Probably would look better But since it looks to be a trail truck I dont suppose it would matter.

That would be a ton of body work.  Sounds sweet but I don't have the patience or the time to cut up the rig like that :)

You could get the simular apearance if you cut in front of the fender flare up to the top and then mirriored it extending the wheel well back as far as you need.  Then you keep the shape, and it opens things up enough for your tires, and you dont have to bob/stretch anything!
