yea i was in double low in all of that, going at some of those faces i was in 2nd instead of first to get a little more tire speed.

yea i dont have many spots around, i go there a lot, and only a couple other places.

well the whole new rearend is in with marlin 4inch rear springs   about to start on the front once i finish finding springs.

so the last thing that i have to do on the rear is move the shackle mount and it appears even though we measured a ton and even measuring the springs on the truck everything was done right, but i gained a little bit of wheel base in the rear regardless.   anyways it might work out perfect i am thinking about mounting the shackles on the upper edge of the frame and running a crossmember between the rails.  anyways sketched up a little something.  let me know what ya think.  oh yea these springs seem a little tall for my liking as well so mounting them like this will give me a little less lift.  and for the rear to match the front i think that i may run a 5 leaf RUF pack instead of 6 depending on how much lift the new shackles and drop hanger give me.    FYI trying to keep this around 3 in of lift.

(disregard shackle angle i couldnt figure out how to rotate it more in paint.  its more kicked back.)

awesome truck.  i love the 2nd gen extra cab trucks.  i dunno if i like those or 1st gens better.
how satisfying is stock dual cases?  im getting a parts truck soon and im gonna double up mine.  if its really that worth it to go with 4.7 gears in the second case then i better start saving now.  if stock duals is slow enough to drive up a rock, thats fine for me.  ANYTHING is better than stock.  ive never driven a truck in double low, so i dont even know what it feels like

id say go with the dual ultimate... the 4.7s in the rear case are killer... 1st gear in double low is perfect for crawling..

"Later, I learned that even though I engage 4WD my hubs are not automatically locking? Something about manual locking hubs I think. What's manual mean? I need to read a manual to lock them? lol  So I found these neat autolocking hubs and installed them. Sometimes they dont stay locked while I am backing up, but that's fine because I dont have a backup camera to see where Im going (like our RV) so I just simply dont ever back up"- BigMike

keenan welding the marlin knuckle ball gussets on

knuckle ball gussets and the AP style armor welded on.  i decided not to use the top truss because it isnt necessary

finished RUF pack

greg (4.3s10) welding some last minute stuff on the axle one night.

axle hung, front hanger tacked on new front shackles yada yada

side view

30 splines

axle back together not sure what gregs doing in there.  painted the marlin highsteer turtle green  :turtle3:

tires finally on to see how far the axle was moved

rear crossmember welded in, and new shackle mounts welded in, with the marlin 4in springs

new shackle angle

steering box mount

box mocked up as far forward as possible

truck sitting outside yesterday after everything.  after putting the IFS rear in we put the wheel spacers into the front.  the front springs are basically flat at ride height so i ordered bumpstops for them cause they go negative easily.  i like the new stance a lot.  wheelin next week so should have some good posers.

that looks really good..why did you lift the bed so high? is it to clear the rear tires?

thanks man.  yea i lifted it because if you look through the older pics you can see how close it was.  it was limiting a ton of flex.  i was on some tight time constraints because we were gonna put wheel wells in instead of body lifting it but the pucks were free and it took like 20 min to do.  the bed is at the perfect height for bump stops though.  it stops the springs as they get to full stuff.

thanks man.  cant wait to wheel it!

I know how that is. We spent a year on my '82, and then I only drove it for about two months. Now i'm startin' another truck.

gtoyonrocks

Nice truck, my truck wasn't anything close to what you have built at 17 years of age, that's awesome.
