I think if you're going for a tow rig and you want good mileage your ONLY choice is an 04-05 Dodge Cummins Quad cab Long/Shortbox Diesel 5spd.  These trucks get fantastic mileage compared to any newer gas or diesel pulling truck.

i just sold me 01 ex cab 3500 dully dodge with a 6 speed. this thing would pull. but i didnt need the truck anymore, with the new  job i just dont drive / tow with it much, a tundra will be good for me now. that i only tow the toy once a month

Yep, those are nice trucks.  I plow with two guys who run 05 diesels.  They may not get the  job done faster.  But they get it done with less fuel, less fatigue, and more comfort.  For me, an 04-05 3500 diesel dually 4x4 longbed with the 6spd manual would be perfect.  It's too bad they didn't start making the 4500-5500 chassis cabs until 2008-2009, they've got all the emissions junk and DPF purge that just kills mileage.  It's funny how we run all this emissions equipment like DPF's, EGR's, Urea injection etc.  All of it costs more money and significantly reduces mileage.  Why spend all this time and money "improving" emissions on the equipment side, when more emissions could be reduced by simply improving the fuel quality?  I have no idea who makes those decisions.  But a European market diesel engine reacts to North American market diesel fuel like a disease.

Here's my junk- 07.5 silverado 3500- got it traded in at work, couldnt pass it up  :gap:

i have the same truck you describe.  You don't want the 5 speed.  i have the 5 speed and my parents have the 6.  I like their truck better, the 5 speed has a large gap between 3 and 4 that is a pain when towing uphill if you lose your rpm's

4LoRunner

alrighty the six speed then haha

i think u need bigger rubbers but she looks nice

mine, '06 3500 long bed, quad cab, 6spd, 4wd rolling on 315/70R17s.

Just did a 2200 mile or so trip to CO and back, pulling a car and trailer, with a full load in the bed.  Pulled awesome, cruised 65-70 the whole way.

Dave, that would be a '66 :disturbed:

Just bought it from grandpa.  He's had it since 1972.  Its the car my mom drove in high school.  Its in decent shape over all, completely stock for the most part.

4lo,
Personally, I probably would have bought a shortbed, but this was what I found.  now that I've had a long bed though, I don't think I'd ever want anything else :gap:  That and I hate the look of the newer dodge shortbeds.  to me the lines of the quad cabs just look goofy without a longbed.

I don't think the mega cabs come in the long bed.  They're on a longbed frame I believe.

:yesnod:

when I started looking, I was looking for a mega cab.  However, it was very difficult to find a mega cab with the 6spd like I wanted, especially in my price range.  I actually was almost giving up when I found this one, and I couldn't be happier with it, esp. with the deal I got.

A longbed Megacab will cost you $6,000 ontop of whatever you pay for the truck.  Worth it for some, over the top for others.  But they do exist, and they can be made.

Rocksnail

Im sure all the mega cab long beds are made. not bought from a dealer. i know a few people that have them. and there way to long to drive.  magacablongbed.com makes them.

Yeah 4 door longbed trucks are way to long, everytime my wife drives ours she tell me so. She's just pissed because she has to park too far away from the front door of the store.

Yup that's what it is, 4 door longbed Ford Rollalong, she actually likes it says nobody gets in her way but currently she has a broken foot so walking from the back of the parking lot is tough.
