Those headers are gonna bling when they turn blue  :yesnod: I've got the same ones and love 'em

Ramrod

While reading a book from a header manufacturer lately it said not to break in a motor with a header on it because the exhaust is really hot a first and it will turn the header blue so I will run a manifold on the new motor for a hour or so

I believe finger prints, or rather, the oil from your fingers once heated on the header begins to turn the header blue. At least that is always the case on every chrome motorcycle header I've installed. Most motocycle aftermarket header installation booklets tell you to clean the header pipe of all fingerprints and oil before starting the engine to avoid bluing. It is probably the same for any header, but thought that would help a little. It might not matter, but could avoid bluing on your header. Good Luck! Can't wait to see it on there!

update time:

Actually there isn't much to say.  I was bored the other day so I put on the header and am pretty happy with the extra power and sound.  It might have lost a little power off the line but right in the mid range there is a definite increase.  For the motor the only thing I have done is put on a new water pump and finally got the oil pickup tube and oil pan permenantly mounted.  I took the head in to get machined for the bigger valves but it turns out that the head was completely unusabe and not worth even a core so I just ordered a brand spankin new pro-topline head from engnbldr.  I just got this email from cruzin performance that my injectors are cleaned and ready.  Here is the link to the test sheet, i am happy. http://www.cruzinperformance.com/injcleaned/index.php?action=showinjdata&id=2116&l_name=harrington&injserial=602061-602064      Hopefully I get this all in soon and am about done spending money because I need a tubing bender and tubing bad

what did you do wrong to your motor?  I saw something about an improper breakin, was there any assembly error involved?

gotrocks

we aren't sure yet, we are going to tear it back down.  my buddy who pretty much did the whole rebuild has done a few toyota motors and is a very compatent mechanic was with me when it went bad.  he doesn't quite understand what happned because I was being pretty good to it.  We think that my temp gauge was off and it gave me a false reading and so it overheated and possibly ceased the piston rings.  I just hope I don't have to re-machine the block.

looking for a 80-85 not built toyota pickup in tenn, nc, sc, virginia can anyone help????

engnbldr 268 torkr and thorley header.  I'm either putting the head on today or going to the junkyard for my last few parts

lilbuddy

Awesome. I just put on my head with the cam in it and it gave me a good amount more power. Plus it sounds really cool at idle. Its the satge 2 EFI LCE cam. Its got like a 290 duration. Still dont think it has as much power as it should. I messed with the carb a bit but still dont think its all good. Once I get my EFI on I will be set.

Nice, I'm right behind you for an EFI swap.  I'm building up my motor as we speak.  The paint details look killer!  Nice touch.

Thanks for the comments,  its coming along nicely.  Today will be the day of wiring, hopefully I can get it all done there isn't really that much.  I already went out and mounted the efi fuse, circut open relay, and efi relay and then plumbed all the engine bay fuel lines

Ramrod

its gonna run tomorrow  :crossed:  then it will be down to marlins shop next friday to pickup two in-cab cages and possibly a 4.7 t-case gearset

Ramrod

well I have been dicking with this thing for a while now and nothing would get it running.  I tried everything and nothing made a difference so I said screw this its time to start throwing parts at this biotch and went down to yodamans shop in Santarosa and he let me borrow: different fuel injectors one day that didn't help anything than I dicked with more crap and today I went there and got: computer, egr valve, fuel pressure regulator, tps.  I got home stuck in the com]puter and wam it started right up and idled.  I have been dicking with this for two weeks and all the problem was the whole time was the damn computer didn't work.  so heres some pics for everyone.  I doesn't look as good as befor because I tore the wiring all apart and a bunch of other crap but i'll clean it up

MR_DIY

COOL!  glad ya got it figured out.  I like the DIY windshield visor in the last pic  :disturbed:

Thats great man, sometimes these Yoda EFI systems can be the biggest pain, but they pay off, thats for sure.

Nice work on wiring, cant wait to see it on the trails again.
